Title: 67 Deck Lid repair and ID help
Post by: 1967RS/SS on August 31, 2011, 11:32:04 PM
I Will be removing the rear spoiler the previous owner installed on my car and taking ithe lid to a body shop to repair the holes and was hoping someone would be able to tell me which lid I have and/or provide any pictures of what the same lid would look like without a spoiler.

I want to make sure they repair all holes but not any that should be there.  I am sure all the exterior holes should be filled (except those for the emblems) but I am not sure about the underside?

My car has an 01C build date if that matters...

Thanks in advance!

Whatever holes were drilled for the studs do not belong. I'd media blast the rear hem first and also see if any holes are blown though where those tabs are spot welded to the raised spots. Common issue. And look for swelling inside at the rear hem which is indicative of advancing corrosion.

Thanks for the help.  My biggest question now is about this square shaped opening with the small hole above it.  Is it part of the last owners install of the rear spoiler or are they factory holes?  What are the for?  Trunk light? Thanks

This is what the underside of my spare T52 dated (last week Dec '66) trunk lid looks like. It has never had a spoiler on it.

Your emblem holes go in that indent in your 3rd pic top right corner.  They don't look quite like my 68, but they had the secondary emblem cut outs for spoilers already in their design.  My spoiler was an add-on.  The bottom set of holes that should have been drilled from the factory weren't.  The original holes for the emblem without spoiler are the ones with the dum-dum in white.

Just curious or want to clarify your meaning concerning "but they had the secondary emblem cut outs for spoilers". That was a 68 change to deck lid design I thought so 67's would not have. Are you saying his would have or referring to yours? What bottom set of holes were not drilled from the factory? Are you referring to the 4 lower emblem holes that were pierced in or?
Interesting to the # of changes made on these deck lids in three years.

Chick, I was trying to tell him where the emblem holes where in his lid and that his wouldn't look like mine because of the changes made by my build date, having the second set of access holes for the emblem to be moved up when the spoiler was on.  That other set of holes that should have been pierced to move the emblem up on my 68 are intact and that's how I knew the spoiler was an add-on.  It's the two oblong holes under the ones with the white dum-dum, top right corner.

Thanks for the help guys.

Hey Mello, mine is stamped T52 also. You got any pics of the whole underside?
