Did I miss something on engine VIN stamps for cars after 12c??? I thought all VINs were stamped on the oil filter boss following 12C Norwood built cars... Please look at this ebay sellers photos. Is that a valid z28 engine stamp? I bet not but what do I know? :-\

Just as I thought... another not so original... Are 69 z28s with NOM going for 45K???
I know this is a loaded and difficult question but here goes anyways. What range should I be looking for while searching for an original 69 Z28 in good condition (condition 2 or 1)? It does not have to be a show car but would rather buy a turn key as I have 4 car projects now and very limited free time.

Slightly OT but......Why is it that people asking/expecting huge dollars for things on ebay cannot take pictures in focus of the some of the most important things?

Pricing of REAL Z's, like most other muscle cars, have plummeted over the last few years, so 45k for a solid number 2 car isn't impossible. Two or three years ago no way, but now that we're in a "recession", you should be able to find something you like in the 40 to 50k price range. Probably even a numbers matching car!!

Probably because they're trying to hide things!

A nice clean day 2 '69 Z28 will be within this band range of $45K, I have seen non numbers matching Z's get up there in price if they have rare color combinations IE: white interior, popular exterior colors etc. Tuxedo Black Z's are very hard to find (and often faked) but the price would be in the mid $40K range for a day 2 and no original driveline. A nicely restored day 1 car will depend on the quality of restoration, to often we see a car "restored" just to find multiple issues with fit, finish and quality. This band range will be predicated by how nice the car came out. Original documentation will also play a role in determining value. Unfortunately the price point is all relative, original docs, driveline, color and body all play a huge factor in determining value.

That part I could live with since that's how they came out of the factory. It's the "numbers matching, original x33. meticulously restored", when a person with a passing knowledge of 1st gen Camaros can spot 50 things wrong with the car that gets me. Some of these people think we're all very stupid.

Not a good idea because the fakers will know what to look for and how to perfect them.

The sheer number of FAKE 10 10 Black cars has hurt the price of the real ones more than most people will ever know.
There are so many fake Black Z's, most owners have no idea or have choosen to bury their heads in the sands of NEVER NEVER LAND as to what they really have in the garage...
If all of the guys who thought they had a BLACK Z were to go out on the open market and attempt to acquire a REAL BLACK Z the prices would go through the roof, and the scarcity would TRUELY be known.
