Post by: 427-KING on August 24, 2011, 10:57:27 PM
Does nayone have the info on the dates of these 4296 holleys that came on the factory ZL1s and l88 corvettes .   I know a 911 sold for 10K a few years back.  Havent seen many prior to 942.

Don't know why anyone would pay up for one. Probably all of Fred Gibbs ZL-1 Camaros were built with the standard BB #4346 carb; maybe a few others. Gibb stated this in an interview in the '90s. Period engine photos of #3 show a #4346.

An original ducted hood air cleaner has an interference issue with any double-pumper.

I saw one on eBay with an August 68 date.
Very early.
I would assume that anything prior to February 1969 was intended for an L88.

"I would assume that anything prior to February 1969 was intended for an L88."...............ironically both applications are for 500K cars.

Is the question here regarding establishing the correct date/timelines for a 4296 to be "ON" a ZL1 delivered car?
-OR-
Are you trying to establish a price to any 4296?

If your question is regarding correct delivered timelines, ie: open the hood of a brand new 69 ZL1 and see that 4296 there in person on that motor,
then I would invite those in the know to offer that answer.

If you are trying to establish the price of one of these with a 1968/1969 date, then it would be up to the need of someone who has a real car,
whether it be an L88 or a ZL1, needing a 4296 with the date code for their car missing the original carb.

Clone cars, ones that are not real, made to look correct, define a value that only fits that need; and one established by that owner.
