Title: B.U. rear end
Post by: wisemanz28 on August 08, 2011, 09:56:26 PM
I, m looking at two B.U. 3:73 rear ends for my 69 Z28. The first one is dated C 26 9, this rear end has orginal gears and yh axles, the other is dated F 23 9, this rear end will have new gears and yh axles. My motor is dated H 22 9. Which would be a better axle for my car, my main goal is trying to keep it original

It depends on the build date on the car, not the engine build. However, going by the engine code, I'm guessing your car was assembled in early September, 1969, so neither of these would be close enough. You should find one dated late August, 1969. But again, it depends on your cars build date.

Thanks Ed, my cars build date was 1st week of September 69. I've had such a hard time locating a rear end that would work for my car I was thinking on settling for one of these rear ends. I'm not sure what to do, do you think I should keep on looking?

Yes, but by late August, they were using the three letter codes (CBU in your case), which is going to make it even more difficult. If you can find a mid August BU axle, that will work too.

Thanks Ed, I'll keep looking, after all both of these axles are very expensive so I would hate to buy the wrong one for my car.

I agree, if you are being picky, the axle should be a late Aug assembly date (casting date is not relevant).

Kurt the axle tube on the latter axle is stamped 7 22, the casting date is F 23, if that makes a difference, but actually I know this axle is a little early for my car
