Title: LM1 convertible RS
Post by: ithaca280 on July 25, 2011, 02:01:47 AM
I have a 1969 LM1 convertible RS that is all original numbers matching 3 speed manual, HQ stamped on engine.  This car has been in my family since 1974, my dad bought it for $375 then.  My question is how rare is this car, it is in mint condition and has 80,000 miles on it.  Need help from some experts, I am new to the forum and no it is not  for sale.

Even in 74, that was a deal!
I assume you've seen http://www.camaros.org/lm1.shtml. Don't see too many 3-speed cars (see http://www.camaros.org/lm1.shtml#L48 for why).

Any 69 convertible is a good thing. RS convertible is better. Add an LM1 and you have a great combo there. Don't see many, esp with the original trans.

Does it have the Muncie 3 speed? Thanks.

John.

Yes it is the muncie 3 speed.  I have seen the LM1 report and research info, that is when I discovered it was an LM1 car.  For years my dad and I thought it was a very odd car and that it had been ordered with SS options, we had never heard of an LM1 option car.  I was 7 years old when I rode home in the car, my son is 9 and just rode in it for the first time, I hope my grandson has the same experience one day.

Great! sounds like a neat car. My car has an original Muncie 3 speed too and I've been curious what the original shifter boot is supposed to look like. Any chance you could post some pictures of your car? Thanks.  :)

Yes I will post a pic of the shifter boot, nothing special about it that I can tell.

Wow. I have an LM1 Vert with the original 3 speed muncie as well. Also, there was just one on ebay (non vert)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110721582170&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT

but the guy did'nt know anything about LM1's or why it had a 3 speed muncie. I emailed him and gave him some info on what the HQ suffix was.

I also had an olympic gold LM1 a while back with the 3 speed muncie. Have'nt seen so many 3 speed muncies around at one time.....

Here's the boot pre restore in mine, no console boot:
