Title: OEM Paint
Post by: LM69Z28 on May 05, 2011, 11:29:47 PM
Howdy
I am trying to locate some OEM Spary paint. This Chevy Orange Red color is made by the company in Escondido Califronia, OEM Paints.Inc. This great color and was carried at one time by everyone from Ricks to Classic to HBC but no one carries it any longer and the company will only sell 3 cans minimum at 60 bucks a whack! The product number is 62020, bar code is 02212 62020. Only need one can. Any help would be truly appreciated!!!  Will pay all actual costs to the Los Angeles area.
Thanks

You can get Chevy Engine Orange rattle can paint most anywhere. No need to shop so hard and pay through the nose. Forget the advertizing hype. The color varied year to year and even during the model years so why try harder? You could go to the effort to have a can mixed up at your local automotive paint supplier and that would be better but you might not want to go to all that trouble.

This is second hand info so take it with a grain of salt.  My engines have always been painted Chevy Orange, even if they weren't that color when I got them.

The different plants phased the colors in at different times. Flint began using the newer Orange-Red after Tonawanda.

Flint engines were the newer color by '70, Tonawanda engines were changed over in '69.
The "Orange" colors are both available from 'Duplicolor';
Chevrolet Orange = #DE-1620
Chevrolet Orange-Red = #DE-1607

The "Blue" engines began getting phased in in 1975 (1976 model year) and there are/were two colors used depending on if the engine was a 'Corporate' or a 'Chevrolet' engine.

The "Blue" colors are both available from 'Duplicolor' also;
Chevrolet Blue = #DE-1609
GM 'Corporate' Blue = #DE-1608
The Chevrolet Blue is darker than the GM blue, which was closer to the old Pontiac Blue ...
GM Blue was used on Detroit Diesels years before it made it to cars.
Ford Blue is darker still than Chevrolet Blue ...

The Black engines began in 1982 in trucks and spread to the cars.
The Duplicolor number is #DE-1613 (Gloss Black)

Many of the NCRS Corvette guys lean toward Quanta's "Chevy Engine Orange" - its shade and lower gloss than most of the other high-gloss Chevy Orange engine paints are closer to the original factory paint.

John has it right.

The Quantra paint is Seymour paint re-packaged, #EN-48.  That is the best and closest to original in my opinion and many of the Diamond master judges judges out there.

if you have a sample of the correct color, you may be able to have it scanned and mixed by a local paint shop or auto body shop that has a good paint machine and operator

Cheaper thru Seymour...........same codes on the bottom of the cans.  SEYMOUR MAKES IT FOR QUANTRA AND THEY REPACKAGE IT.

Trying to save folks on this board money.  Buy it from Seymour.
