This is what John is asking about and Quanta sells marking kits which have the tape or you can purchase it by itself. Others like heartbeat sell it also I'm pretty sure. JohnZ wrote some time back that he thought the tape was used to tape off the #3 hole for the water test..... I have the tape and will report back the size, etc...

I think the tape covers the holes in the floor pan .That picture does not look correct. The reason they used the tape is for the water test???thanks John
-
Fisher Body used a piece of tape over both of the #3 body mount holes in the floor pan to seal them for their water test, before the body was delivered to the Chevrolet side of the plant; I don't recall what type of tape they used.
-
Are you talking about where the sub frame bolts go into the body?
-
Hello, yes the rear hole in the floor pan ,below the seat. thanks John

The tape is 3/4" wide and is very different in black texture. Not like any other tape I could tell you to go get. I mentioned in my post what John had mentioned some time back concerning the tape being used for covering the hole for the water test. The picture is of what comes in the Quanta kit is is listed as "Technical Bullentin #69".

Here is the tape John Z is talking about and was to cover the hole for water test. To my knowledge 1st. gen Camaros did not have any mounts taped to the frame. Note the sticky side is up. I think it is 2" and the OE's I have seen are black. I have used masking tape and rattle canned it with black lacquer with good results. AMK carries the black tape. I even scrounged up a roll at Carlise last year.

Mine had tape that went around like it held them to the frame for placing the body on when I took the originals off.

Any chance it had both ?

That's a distinct possibility - Corvettes had all eight cushions taped to the frame, and so did some passenger cars; if problems were encountered with cushions coming off at Body Drop, Production would start taping them until the issue was resolved - it was an ugly repair, or a line-stop issue.
-
I don't recall any tape on my plugs, but I do have my originals in a box and remember the tape around the sides when I replaced them.
-
It looks like Gaffers tape. I have a roll I will dig out and get a pic.
-
I see there is a pic there labelled as a 69.. (Thanks M22Mike) ..but the 69 AIM (UPC 1-D1) makes no mention of the tape in it's illustration or components list.
Are we sure it's also a 69 detail? :)
Also Charley, Isn't Gaffer tape the same woven cloth tape that is often used to tape down audio cables temporarily at events and such? (I think originally produced by Nashua)
The tape in the pics doesn't appear to be that same tape. It looks more like a very wide version of the same paper-type tape used to retain some of the single wires to wiring looms in the car.

Steve, John Z stated that the tape was for a water test on the Fisher Body side before the body came through to the Chevrolet side. Therefore it was a Fisher Body operation and would not appear in the 69 AIM. Hope this helps.

That is correct, would not be in the AIM.
The tape in question here, you may have seen it holding the paper door water shields in place ? It was a very thin and cheap paper tape, I dought if it was anything like gaffers tape Charley. I have also found bits of it on the heater box to hold the sponge seal it place that is around the heater core outlet tubes.

Yes gaffers tape is too thick. Here is some tape still on the rear shock hole and it is barely thicker than paper. Notice it has a sheen to it.

Notice it has a sheen to it.
Charley, is that gloss or semi-gloss??
;D
Sorry pal, I couldn't resist.

The tape used to seal that hole for water test was a Fisher Body item, so it wouldn't appear in the Assembly Manual.

Thanks Guys.
It was Chick's 3rd post in this thread with what looks like an AIM page with tape wrapping the bushings that had me confused. I thought that was the tape in question.
Anyway, I (also?) assumed it's purpose was to hold the bushings during assembly -post Fisher. ..and didn't thoroughly read the following posts. :)

That picture Steve came with a Quanta 68 marking kit and was noted as "Technical Bullentin #69". They have several (8 or 9) of these "Technical Bullentin" numbered forms and many of them are confirmed with what I have found on our car and read what others have found. Have no idea to how correct or not on this particular bullentin #69.
