See the "retractor" mounted on the belts in these photos (not 1st gen but I've seen them installed on 1st gens):

Are these after market or GM items? If GM, Were they strictly over the counter pieces or could a car be delivered with such devices. I cannot seem to recall where I have run into these before but I'm thinking it was on shoulder belts.
Any info appreciated

Here's a photo of OER's repop:

Just trying to figure out original application and path way for these to end up on a car.

Those were dealer installed accessories (P/N 986068) and were also used on the early 67's without retractors if I remember correctly. Kurt can verify that, but you can see them in the top right corner of the below picture.

Knew I'd seen them in literature before but couldn't find the reference - thanks.
So the only possible OE use (on Camaro) would be early '67s - if Kurt verifies.

Nice article or memorabilia Ed. Were these same items available for 69? If not do you have anything similar for 69 you can post?

I'm not sure about 69 since the P&A only states 64-68. But then again, I don't have a 69 CUSTOM FEATURES (http://www.rickscamaros.com/camaro-custom-feature-accessories-booklet-1969.html) book to check. Maybe someone with a 69 edition can scan it in for you (if the retractors are shown).

Thanks for the link Ed. I think I'll pick one up. It would be interesting to know what else was available for these cars from the dealership.

These were offered in 1967 with the Camaro. I still have an original Camaro accessories brochure. Here is a copy of it on the internet. Also, check out the entire site for all kinds of cool automotive literature, brochures, advertisements, etc.

Nope, I wasn't out there. Back now. :)
They were dealer accessories - I've pulled several out of other GM cars. Never factory installed.
Nice pic of them here: http://www.camaros.org/options.shtml#ShoulderHarness

These were standard equipment from the factory in the rear seats of Cadillacs during the mid to late 60's.
They were attached both male portions for the 2 outer backseat belts - likely to prevent them from getting slammed in the doors.
Corvettes used these for a few years too. - pretty common.

That's correct - they were standard equipment on '65 Corvettes (P/N 9776227).
