Title: thremo housing #3896958
Post by: Pacecarjeff on April 05, 2011, 10:27:35 PM
Aluminum thermostat housing #3896958 looks EXACTLY the same as the 3877660 housing.
Except for just the spring retainer flange is higher.
Anyone know what the application for the 958 is?

Really weird considering the spring retainer was not utilized on the Camaros - instead attach at the coil bracket location.
I always thought the 396 Lo-perf Camaros used a Cast iron housing, as such I have that on my 67.

Are you guys saying the 67 396-325 should have this 958 aluminum housing painted orange?

L-78 Nova? They had the low profile intake.

I installed the aluminum 3896958 water outlet on my 3C (3rd week of March) 1968 Camaro 350 for the same reason lakeholme quoted...the P&A 34 said it was correct for my car.

According to my “Chevrolet Parts History Index" (Revised 1 Nov 1969), 3877660 superseded 3896958 in July 1968.
