Title: 1111488 distributor date code
Post by: grit1210 on April 01, 2011, 07:12:13 AM
Could an H 20 8 stamp dated distributor be the original mate for my first week October/68 assembled L48 engine, with M20.  The block casting date is I 20 8.  Thanks.

Yes - that distributor date works fine with the engine assembly date.

Thanks John.  I was hoping so.  It seems the more I learn about my car the less I know about the cars in general and how much incorrect information is in circulation, such as the SS 350 coming with the finned, aluminum valve covers. That I learned for the first time at O'dark thirty this morning right before my first post. Am I correct in assuming that the H is August on the distributor stamp?  I ran across some info, can't find it again though, that stated the distributors skipped a letter and referred to the H as September.

One last question.(Please take pity on the new guy)  Is there one location that lists the date coding methodology per component, i.e. Julian or not, skipped letter or sequential or if the year indicates model year or stamping year?  I know this makes me sound lazy but I figured it doesn't hurt to ask :)

Thanks again.

Wow
You guys take pity to a whole new extreme.  THANK YOU.  With this being my first venture into the forums I got tunnel vision and forgot about the abundance of info on the main site and I did mention lazy, right?

Thanks again.
