OK, clear up something for me, please. I see a ton of pics of "Original, unrestored" 69 Camaro SS 350cc/300hp engines with the "finned " chrome valve covers, like those on the Z/28's. I thought all the L48 engines came with smooth orange covers. Am I wrong?

I bought a 350-300HP engine out of a junk yard in the late 70's for a dirt car and it came with the orange valve covers.
Orange would be correct.

Correct, all 1969 L48 (350 - 300 HP) engines came with plain stamped steel valve covers that were painted orange on the engine at the engine plant.

No your not wrong. Only the Z28 came from the FACTORY with the finned aluminum covers. Every other Camaro that has them has had them added by a previous or current owner.

Lots of "unrestored" cars with "unfactory" parts out there.

They just looked so plain after the 68's that the first thing the owners did was replace the valve covers.... yes the original are steel orange and yes I'm tempted to put the 'finned one's on' too
cheers

I'm an old guy, so plain is good with me.
