Title: 12 Bolt Paint Process Questions
Post by: 68camaroz28 on March 22, 2011, 01:12:04 AM
Our 12 Bolt is re-built and I'm in the process of final prep prior to paint. When the factory masked off the yoke was the slinger (between yoke and housing) masked off alsol? Were the brake cylinders attached during this paint process or put on after paint?
Thank You!

A cardboard cap was placed over the yoke when the axle assembly (including the brake drums, parking brake cables and wheel cylinders) was painted at Detroit Gear & Axle.

Thanks John as always! Do you know if that cardboard cover covered the slinger (what we call it) that protects the pinion seal from getting junk in. I was not sure it it was painted or not????

Just to clarify, the parking brake cables were installed but not specifically painted as the photo attests.
