Title: 186 cylinder heads
Post by: wisemanz28 on March 13, 2011, 08:41:27 PM
I'm looking at a set of 3927186 heads on ebay, the casting dates are H 14 9, my engine pad reads H 25 9. Would these dates be okay for my engine or are they too close?

Based upon what I have seen, they would line up for your motor build time frame

After rechecking those heads the dates are H 15 and H 18, I'm hoping these dates are okay for my August 25 th motor. What is the rule of thumb for date coded engine parts ( such as heads)? How close can you get to the engine pad date? Any help is appreciated , thanks.

Do you know the cast date on the block?  That's what I would go by.  If the heads cast dates are somewhat close to the block cast date I think you would be alright.  On other posts, I think JohnZ said there was an example or two of blocks being cast one day and assembled the next day?

My block was cast on may 22nd and assembled on the 25th, I believe the norm is to be within a week of casting

My block was cast on the 23rd and assembled on the 26th so that's about the same as yours and my heads are 9 and 11 days off the block cast.
