Hey all.... when I purchased my 69, the previous owner told me there was no vin on the block. A couple of years ago I spent some time with some Muriatic acid and washed the rough casting beside the oil filter...
The Vin showed up and I got several photo's before it 'disappeared' again.... the vin plate is for comparison you can make out most numbers..

cool, now you know for sure.

What are you plans? Are you going to leave it alone or have it decked and restamped? Or...are you going to restamp as is?
-
Its on the rough cast area by the oil filter... so put some clear coat and just left it covered with that.... nice find though. :D
Not sure who to give credit to... read about acid lifting vin some where before I tried it....

No wonder I can't read mine...I can barely see yours. ;D But then mine is still in the car, 41 years of grime....yada yada....
Glad to see there is hope for when I finally pull the motor. Nice job and pics.

Probably a stupid question, but can you acid was it while in the car?
-
No such thing as stupid questions. Yes I did it in the car. Took off the oil filter and just kept running a paint brush dipped in Muriatic acid on it. Kept taking photo's on Macro mode before I could tell where the numbers were.... fairly high up on the cast area.
