Title: AD Rims
Post by: HOT3O2 on February 26, 2011, 05:07:53 PM
I'm in the process of trying to find AD rims for my 12B Z28. The rims I have seen out there all had a date code of Oct. 24. Were these rims made in batches on certain days?  I'm sure there has to be some other dates out there for these rims. If anybody out there has an early built Z28 with the original rims could you post the date codes you have. Or anybody that has knowledge of some other date. It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Rick

Yes they were made in batches. That might be the correctly dated wheel for your car? Not sure

There's several AD dates, but that's probably the one that came with your car.

Where are you finding AD rims? I rarely see any being offered for sale, much less a specific date. If you find any dated Sept 20, I'd be interested.

I sold a K18 8 19 AD wheel a while back. I was surprised, not a huge amount of interest in it. ???

When you think about it, that's not all that surprising. It's a 69 early Z/28 wheel only. So only early 69 Z owners looking for that wheel  (ie missing their originals) would be the market. How many of these would there be today? In my case, I know that the missing AD wheels on my car were dated 9/20. Those are the only ones I'd consider. Otherwise, I'll just go with the incorrect ones I've got.

Yea the AD's are only Z's where as the YH's are Z's and dBL COPO's.

Thanks for all the great information. And Jimmy, I'll keep an eye out for the Sept. 20 AD rim. If I come across any I'll let you know.

Rick,

Thanks for keeping an eye out for me. I'm pretty sure that they are on (or were) another 69 Camaro SS in Ohio. My car came with (5) 14 x 7 YH rallys, four with an identical early June 69 date, and the spare with a May 69 date. These could only have come from a 69 Camaro or Nova SS. Pretty sure they all come from the same car. I was told years ago (1982) by the previous owner that the wheels were swapped out even between the 2 Camaros. (long before I knew about codes and dates on the wheels) The wheels seem to confirm the previous' owner's story.
