would a 69 super sport auto come with column shift or console

Column shift unless you ordered the RPO D55 console.

Another clue for a Column Shift SS would be a bench seat.

Could you not get a non console floor shift auto like in 68?

Nope. That was a 68 only thing and only available on the M40 transmission.

My 68 RS/SS L35 M40 Bench seat car had one...
