Title: Helping a Guy Out
Post by: TooManyReels on February 17, 2011, 11:55:04 PM
I went to see a guy today that has a 1969 Z28 Vin.# 12437N663446 with the following cowl tag info..
Trim 711
06B
12437NOR357740
code 52-52

This is all the all the info I could find on the car without putting it on a lift. It looks like the motor as either been replaced or the block decked..The partial vin # and build dates are gone..

He bought this car from someone that had lived in Rockwell Texas..Anyone knowing anything about this car my friend would like to know...I looked at this car because we said he wanted sell it so I thought I would check it out...The body of the car looks to be in great shape and the paint is very nice as well, it would be a great car if anyone is looking.  This car would clean up very nicely and could be a daily driver.  He belives it to have a 3:73...The car is now painted a British Green (I think) with Black Interior which is in great shape..If you want his contact info just let me know...

The partial VIN would not be on the block where the build date was. It is stamped down by the oil filter so you can check if it's original to the car.

Search for other vin stamp threads on the site, it has been discussed a bit. The partial vin stamp by the filter can be difficult to read, especially if it's in the car.

Don't search for the engine VIN. That's not the original block. Had a 350 in it last I knew. Axle is dented where the axle code is. Was in MI.
Tag used to say 57-57 723, so that looks to have been changed.

If it has 06B as a build date its definately a FAKE trim tag, all cars built in June have an 06A build date.

Would also have an "X" code if it was a real Z/28 in that time frame.

It is a real Z. Was an X77 car.

I now would like to thank the brain trust that came up with the idea of replacing real cowl tags with fakes to change the color... from real & green to color of choice & questionable... nice

Yep. From now on that car will be suspect of being a real Z. Changed tag and NOM.

Never seen an 06B trim tag. All June built bodies are stamped 06A!.............DON

I will double check the build date again I may have wrote it down or guess once I got my notes home...Its an ageing thing or just cant read my hand writing anymore...

Thanks for the input though...I'll try and go over tomorrow and look at it again...
