Title: 67, 68 & 69 Trunk Lids
Post by: binky3 on February 10, 2011, 02:23:52 AM
Where is the 'date stamp' or 'run number' on a '67 lid, a '68 lid and a '69 lid??  Also, how are they interpreted or identified??

This might help with decode.

My '69 was stamped on the middle rib in the center if I remember correctly.

Thanks. I was aware of the hood stamping and other front end sheet metal, and their locations. Just trying to find out more info about the trunk stampings.

With the trunk lid in the raised position, it would be toward the bottom and in the middle (from side-to-side) for a '67. An stamping example would be T52.

Thanks Jon.  I was also wondering if anybody has any info on the "3 or "4" holes. What's that about??

The 3-4 hole issue was GM gearing up for a change in the tooling.  If you are referring to the holes where the emblems are installed?  All '67 Camaros have 2 holers until early '67 and the design was changed to three holes, and then four holes for the '68 deck lid.  '68's carried through until early '69.  The newer spoiler holes were then added.

Thanks Jerry. Did all '67's have no spoilers??  On '68 & '69 did emblem holes have to be 'redrilled' if a spoiler option was added??

This is an example of a spoiler that was added as the holes toward the bottom two oblong holes were not drilled from the factory to accommodate the Camaro emblem moving up to be above the spoiler.

The weld tabs on the rear edge were present on the 2nd-design '69 deck lid, and were eliminated on the 3rd-design lid that accommodated the pedestal-mounted Firebird spoiler.

JohnZ, thanks for the info on the weld tabs. I've never seen a 2nd design '69 trunk lid. Can you please describe what they look like.

Look at the last picture in this thread and they are the "dimples" up next to the spoiler bolts at the edge. They go all the way across about 3 or 4 inches apart.
