Title: 1969 Z-28 X77 NoTach
Post by: Gsmith on January 25, 2011, 06:00:22 AM
I was told My Number matching 1969 Z-28  X-77 with Protecto- Plate  Is not a real Z-28 because it does not have a Tach U16/U17 option, it also doesn't  have a Console
or cowl  hood , I know the hood & console are optional , Late Zs required a Tach But what about the early Zs

Please Help Its Going up for sale   (THANK YOU)

Early cars including z/28, tach was an option, as were spoilers. Some people also believe a z/28 without spoilers isn't real....Joe

There is an original owner X77 in NC with no tach, no console, no gauges. My 69 X33 has no console or gauges with a center tach but for some reason is a RS. It is documented in several books when equipment requirements were changed in 69. The option price usually changed also.

My 69 Z has no tach or gauges. Oct 68 build. Does have console, and is RS. Also, there are some window stickers in Jerry Mac's book of Z's without tach or gauges. Just one of the many myths surrounding these cars. Even one Jerry Mac had for sale on his site a while back was a no tach no gauges car.

I have seen genuine Z/28s as late as May w/o tach.

An appropriate quote:

Don't forget "facts are stupid things", "trees cause more pollution than cars" or " I don't worry  about the defict, it's big enough to take care of it's self"
There are other goodies too, but I don't recall.

No, the Early Z I am restoring has no spoilers, no tach and no cowl hood... but it is a born with matching numbers 2 owner 51 k mile car.
If you've got a wager going you're the winner...

I had a '69 Z28 a few years ago and it was an X77 code no tach, no centre console and no gauges. If you really want some piece of mind and are worried you can post some pics of stampings and trim tag, and get feedback from the folks on this site.

I have an 04C X33. No tach, gauges or console. It all depends on the build date and how they were ordered. I personally would not add any of the items if the car didn't come with them.

No matter how correct your car is, there will always be some know it all (that doesn't) proclaiming yours wrong because of something.  Ignorance is very tough to silence. Good luck, and enjoy.
