Title: Gas Tank
Post by: joesauer on January 14, 2011, 05:58:46 PM
Looking for opinions regarding replacing the fuel tank in my '68 SS.  Has anyone changed out to a larger capacity (i.e. 20 gal) that still mounts in the same location & uses the same filler tube/cap?  How about orig finish vs stainless steel?  Thanks.

Tom,
Have not found any tanks over 18 gal standard size.  Would like to get more range (20 gal) for long trips.  Plenty of good 18 gal. repros, but not seen anything larger unless you want to install a trunk mounted fuel cell.  Trying to keep the original look.  A local shop can build a custom original looking 20 gal tank, but real pricy.

I have considered some kind of piggyback tank between the regular tank and the rear axle where the transverse muffler went originally.
