D&R has in their description that they have retooled and I am wondering if they are still (correct) as when Jerry made his comment in 08..?? The above threads are in 08.

Should be, I have them in stock for engines that we rebuild.  Best available.  Two are spot welded and two screw together.

Just installed a set of the repops.Very nice pieces with alittle work they fit real good. One thing that is wrong is the plating. The original plating is silver cad not galvinized. The other thing is nobody ever installs them correctly. The two spot welded ones go on the right side and the other two go on the left. Also the two mounts on the left are painted orange not plated. John p.s. the bolts on the left are painted also

John302,

How did you determine that the bolts and mounts on the left side were painted?  Did a car of yours get hit on this by a Legends Judge?  I'd like to be absolutely sure before I paint mine for the upcoming Nationals.

Never had a car judged.I learned it on my own. My original never taken apart 68z has them orange. If you think about it the mounts go on before the manifold on the left side. Nobody else ever picked up on this detail item. All of the engine I do are done correctly. It doesnt matter to me what the judges say this is the correct way. John Allouez Restoration p.s. go to the 67z web site and look at the pics of Jon Mellos mountain green 67 .It shows the original early take off shields in one of the pics.

I agree with you, John.  I know when I disassembled my original '68 engine, the left brackets and the bolts that mounted them to the block were painted orange....indicating to me that they were mounted to the engine when it was painted at the factory.  The shields were apparently added later at the assembly line....along with the right side ones.

Look in the body section of my Z28 site and you will see pics showing the drivers side ones painted and the pass side ones plated. No I don't know why they ended up in the body section.

Hey, everybody, guess what I just found!  I just looked on page 6/B5 of the 1968 Factory Assembly Instruction Manual and View C of the drawing shows both left-hand side mounts and their screws (GM #274430) as "PART OF ENGINE."

This validates john302, Sonet, and Charley that these left-hand mounts and screws were already on the engine when it was painted red-orange.  Woohoo!

Here is a photo of the spark plug shields that were removed on Day 1 to install headers on Jon Mello's survivor 67 Z28:
