Title: a/c compressor restoration
Post by: rskev on December 17, 2010, 03:12:51 PM
Hello CRG! I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a company or someone out there that rebuilds/repaints a/c compressors. I'm looking to have the original redone on my 68' rs. Thank you!

Thanks John I'll give them a call. Have you, or someone you know used them before?

I had them rebuild/restore my entire A/C setup, compressor, poa valve, expansion valve, condenser and evaporator. I was very pleased with what they sent back, however parts are still in the box as I have not installed them on my car.

I was not pleased at all with the Quality or lack of Quality with the before mentioned vendor.

I would recommend finding another a/c restoration vendor.

Just my opinion !

Hey Mark! What did you have them do for you? What were you unhappy about?

I had what they called a restoration on my O.E. condinser.
Which consisted of pressure check, straighten fins, and refinish.

What I got was a pressure check and what looks like rattle can paint and very little to no fin restoration !

I am glad I did not send my whole A/C system for restoration !

Here  is a pic , Make your own opinion !

Fin combs like this one are cheap and readily available from most a/c parts suppliers.

Excellent point Rob. This inexpensive tool can certainly go a long way.

As for a few of the other comments...please keep in mind it is because of statements such as these that makes it extremely difficult for anyone to make recommendations. Ultimately, it is your responsibility to do your homework and find the best business that will meet your needs. It is equally important that you make every attempt to make your expectations known. In addition, many recommendations are made with respect to previous experiences with specific employees...so don't assume that the same holds true today. These are merely suggestions...its up to you to do what ever is necessary to make the final decision.

Classic Auto Air has done lots of A/C compressor work for many of the NCRS guys with Corvettes on the other side of my hobby for many years with few issues; I guess anyone can have a bad day.
