Title: Distributor Grease

I installed and sized new bushings (.005" clearance) in my distributor (1111489 - L48 Automatic).  Does anyone know what kind of grease was used in the lubricating cavity?  The service manual says "fill housing lubricating cavity with proper compound" but fails to mention what type of grease that is.  The old stuff was almost hard and kind of looks like old caked wheel bearing grease.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

I used Mobil 1 Synthetic Universal Grease when I rebuilt mine. It's rated to 450F.

The GM recommended grease is "GM Cranking Motor and Distributor Lubricant", GM part #1960954.  This is what we used at the dealer.  I might still have a tube in my tool box.  The AC Delco website says it's no longer available...   ???

Per a tip I got from Dave Fiedler (Corvette distributor and T.I. guru), I pack that cavity with pieces of gauze bandage and saturate it with motor oil, install the plastic seal, add the felt washer and oil, then install the breaker plate.
