Title: Door edge guards installation
Post by: My68SS on May 09, 2006, 04:01:01 PM
Hi all, How does one go about fitting the bright metal door edge guards without chipping the paint anyway! [68 Camaro]
They seem a tight fit. The shop manual doesn't give any clues.

The plants put them on with a rubber hammer, and weren't concerned about chips that were hidden under the moldings (which is why I haven't touched the ones that are on my original '69).

If you are using repop or other then original make sure you fit them before paint. Also if you repaint over old paint the edges may be a little thicker and the paint will chip and roll forward leaving a small ridge down rthe length of the edge guards. . I have seen this happen and it wasn't pretty. If you go to bare metal and use the original guards they should fit as before. My car was taken down to bare metal and my guards fit on with no problem after repaint. No chips show.

Good liuck
