Title: rectangular port intake on round port heads
Post by: Kelley W King on October 25, 2010, 06:56:07 PM
My brother has whats is supposed to be a 72 454 in his 69 ss. He was told the heads were rectangular port but they are not. Since the car looks like a L78 he bought a 163 L78 intake. If installed on the round port heads will it work? Which gasket to use? Will performance suffer over and aftermarket aluminum round port intake? Any opinions appreciated.

I know of several Corvette guys who have dealt with the same situation - the rectangular-port intake will work with oval-port heads (using the rectangular-port gaskets), but performance won't be optimum due to the airflow disturbance caused by the "step" at the interface between the intake and heads. It'll work fine for a cruiser.

Thanks John,
I think we will try it for appearance. The car has more power than the tires can take already. This is that same LA car orange car Joo8 we discussed before.
