The VIN doesn't show up in the Department of Justice's National Motor Vehicle Title Information System, but probably means that it is not currently, nor has it been registered in the recent past.

What information are you looking for?  Are you looking to find the car??

Unfortunately then it looks like you might have to try to track it from the last known owner forward ... it may be long gone however since it is not in the NMVTIS database.

Does that data base show past owners of a vehicle. How would I check my vin on that site?

It doesn't show past owners per se, but it does show if it was registered another state.  To check your vin, follow the link that I posted above ... then search for your VIN and pay the $4.95 and you'll see what results they have.

Some states have been better at updating it with older information than others.

Thanks guys I spent the big bucks and gave it a try but it only showed my registration and nothing else. It is what I expected.

This car was last registered in 2007 in the Hudson New York area. Any members in that area?
