Title: Carolina Blue/Powder Blue '69
Post by: IZRSSS on September 15, 2010, 05:06:41 PM
Obviously I'm a newbie on this site and perhaps there has been discussion on this topic before.  At any rate here goes; My car is a '69 RS/SS 350 with the "Special Paint" delete option and is painted GMC code 80 which was offered by Olds under the name "Powder Blue".  In recearching this color I have seen many variations of the color; Carolina Blue, UNC Blue, UCLA Blue, Sky Blue and the list goes on.  All of which are slightly darker than mine.  The original paint can clearly be seen behind the door panels and the second paint on the car matches it to a tee.  Are there any other paint codes for these other colors or are they all one in the same?

Yes...Buick is listed right next to Olds flanked by Camaro and Pontiac on code 80.  Any clues as to how rare this color is?  Sorry...I hate crystal ball questions also.

Wasn't common then, less common now. :)  I've seen 6-8 cars over the years.

Send me an email with your car's #'s and I may be able to tell you more.

What other numbers do you need besides the Vin?

Cowl tag (pic would be preferred). Any drivetrain #'s if you have them handy. :)

Just sent you the info via email.  Vin, engine, a pic of the POP, Cowl Tag (both of which are already de-coded) and a pic of the car.  Thanks for any additional info you can give!

Thanks!
I remember your car. Back in 01, World Wide MuscleCars in OK had it for sale. In fact, I have a pic of it from back then I can post. No stripe back then. IIRC, the story was something about being ordered in UCLA color (maybe for a daughter??).

Yours is the only powder blue car I've seen out of LOS.
Is the selling dealer on the POP?
Nice car!

btw, there was no paint delete on Camaros. All cars left the plant with paint on them. Yours is special order paint.

Wow...So the story I was told from the previous owner is true.  It went something like this, "The car was ordered by a GM executive for his daughter as a graduation gift from UCLA.  She wanted a color that resembled UCLA Bruin blue and this was the closest GM offered'.

PLEASE SEND ME ALL YOU HAVE ON THE CAR!

In addition...you are welcome to post the pic of the car I emailed you.  I have tried but it's difficult for me to do so on this site.

THANK YOU KURTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kurts...Here's the info on the POP.
There is a # in the "Authorized selling Dealer Imprint" box:  8462704 (hand written)
Owner's Name: Pat Murray, hand written (I'm assuming Patrica Murray)
16524 Harbour Lane, H.B.: hand written
VIV: has two hand written dates: 12/12/68 & 12/12/69
There is another hand written # on the front of the POP: 633

That's too long to be the dealer code.  Maybe a phone #?
HB - Huntington Beach? That address is right on the water, if so. Not sure where you'd park a car! :)
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=16524+Harbour+Lane,+Huntington+Beach,+CA&sll=42.277456,-83.711256&sspn=0.007097,0.013711&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=16524+Harbour+Ln,+Huntington+Beach,+Orange,+California+92649&t=h&ll=33.722234,-118.056507&spn=0.015955,0.027423&z=15 (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=16524+Harbour+Lane,+Huntington+Beach,+CA&sll=42.277456,-83.711256&sspn=0.007097,0.013711&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=16524+Harbour+Ln,+Huntington+Beach,+Orange,+California+92649&t=h&ll=33.722234,-118.056507&spn=0.015955,0.027423&z=15)
That's the story WWMC was giving. I'm not a believer in stories like that. They always involve a GM exec for some reason. Unless someone has talked with Pat, it's just a story.

Here's the pic.

Thank you for posting this pic!  I'm guessing this address was Pat's colledge address and perhaps there were apartments located there at the time.  NM guy here so I'm not to keen on Calif. happenings.  All I can tell you is what is on the POP.  However, our two stories on UCLA are too coincidental.  I think there's a possibility its true.  Is there anyway of finding out if there was a Murray exec employed by GM at the time?

I can't tell for certain but it looks like the car in the pic has its original paint.

Can you please send this pic to my email address?

Thanks!

Wow! That sure is an eye catching color. Beautiful car, the white top really sets it off.

Kurt S mentioned it now has a stripe, which one?
Title: Re: Carolina Blue/Powder Blue '69
Post by: IZRSSS on September 16, 2010, 06:17:14 PM
It has a white hockey strip which complements the vinyl top and interior very well.  But if this isn't how it came from the factory it's coming off.  Problem is...I do not have the build sheet.  I am hoping someone at WWMC can help me out.

I tried posting pics of the car but I'm PC challenged and I'm hoping that Kurt can post the pic I sent him via email...

However, our two stories on UCLA are too coincidental.
That's cause both our stories came from the same source, WWMC. Mine was just the memory of an ad 9 years ago. Yours was the story as WWMC told it.
Neither of those codes on the POP is the dealer code. You need to start tracing back owner history, starting with WWMC.

I think I'll drop the story and thank you for checking into the last number I sent you.  I telephoned and emailed WWMC yesterday for the same reasons you mentioned.  Now for the toughest part...waiting to see if they respond back.

Kurt S...as for helping me find this car, I really don't know what to say other than I haven't slept for the last couple days.  In some weird way maybe this will show how grateful I am to this site.

Thanks again...

Thanks!  I'd have to agree with you I wouldn't have pick this color either.  The options are; PW, PS, Pb, Am/Fm "Blue Dot" stereo, Vigilites, Speed Warning Indicator, Clock, Tilt Steering Wheel, Remote Driver Mirror, Vanity Mirror and Space Saver Spare.  It also has its original soft ray glass, interior and vinyl top.

Believe it or not...spent 3 yrs searching the southwest looking for a '69 camaro.  The only concern I had is it had to be a numbers car and one we could afford.  It was one disappointment after the next.  We (family) finally decided to take a look at the new camaro and were a week from committing when I noticed this car in a local Car Trader mag.  Come to find out the car was 15 minutes from we I live and 1/2 a mile from where I worked.

We have two sons and now two muscle cars.  I won't mention what the other one is for obvious reasons.  These cars will be left behind for them.

For whatever its worth...

There was a post in 2006 about a 69 on Team Camaro that sounded very similar to yours.  If I recall correctly, that car was in OK and one of the posters mentioned seeing such a car when he worked at WWMC.  Interesting coincidence.
You might want to trace that post back, if possible.
Here is Carolina Country (NC) back in the day you saw a few Chevelles in the Buick azure blue for special dealer promotions.  But I have never seen a Camaro with ORIGINAL Carolina Blue.  As many UNC-CH fans as there are here in NC, you'd think somebody would have ordered one.
BTW, gorgeous car!!!  ;D  ;D  ;D

Phillip...Information such as this is priceless and I appreciate you sharing it with me!  Any and all information I can compile from this great site will be used to the fullest extent to attempt to nail down the cars history.  All I knew prior to this post is that I was the 3rd owner.  This is obviously not the case now that it has been traced back to WWMC, and I owe Kurt S a huge bit of gratitude!

As for no one ordering this color... I'll say it because I am almost certain that no one else will...What guy back in the day and in the right frame of mind would have ordered Powder Blue...?

I believe I owe everyone an explanation as for the sudden brain storm of fact finding.  On September 24, 25, and 26, 2010 (next weekend).  New Mexico will have its inaugural concorse show, "Santa Fe Concorso" at La Mesita ranch just north of Santa Fe.  This camaro is one of only 50 automobiles invited.  It is the only muscle car in a field of approximately 95% euros.  I will do my best to load up with as much information to at least make a descent representation of this great American Classic.

If your in New Mexico next weekend and you have a chance to go to the show please look me up!  You can get all the information at; santafeconcorso.com.

A gentlemen by the name of RandyC sent me photos of a '69 RS camaro he use to own.  This is another special paint car and is painted azure blue. What's interesting is that this car and my car are painted code 80 and they are totally different.  I give up...

This was a dumb search to begin with.  I will never find out how many Powder Blue, Azure Blue, etc. cars are out there and neither will you, period.  You know why?  These cars were built 41yrs ago and those guys aren't people like me, "splitting hairs" with slight differences in paint.  These guys could have cared less how perfect their paint mix was.  Heck... if some grease on the car got in the way of the paint, too bad.  Take a look at an original car sometime.  You'd be amazed at how sloppy the paint was applied.  You'd be amazed at how sloppy everything was applied... but you know what, I'd trade my car for one like that in a heartbeat.

I entered this website hoping to find out more about my cars history and I ended up with something much more valuable!  Thanks!

I'd like to see the tag on that one, SS hood on an RS only car obviously not the original paint.

I've got a picture of another one, all rusty but it has white Z28 stripes on it and its not a Z28 so its not original paint either, and i don't have any tag info to go with it.

Thanks Nikke, sure looks like a nice car.

My cars previous owner gave me a week to research the car before I bought it.  The first place I looked was right here on this site.  Please spend time on CRG's home page and become familiar with the following; Body Tag, Vin. #'s, RPO's, etc.  Also familiarize yourself in the differences between; base model, rs model, ss model, etc, and the standard equipment of each.

The founding members of this extraordinary site have spent countless hour compiling information for all of us.  Take advantage of this information.

You can't tell from the database entries unless it was noted in the comments section.  A lot of info comes in as just vins, trim tag numbers casting numbers, assembly stampings etc.  Unless someone (the owner) knew and noted that their car was originally a certain color, all we have is a - - trim code to go by.  There may be a few entered as Carolina/Colorado/USC blue, I don't have access to the latest dB, but it may contain cars that are presently that color which were not necessarily that color originally, and there may be cars that were originally that color but are listed as another, because the owner didn't know what the original color was.  Theres no way to go back and come up with a definative answer that say 20 cars were painted that color.

What is the difference between one and two dash marks on the cowl tag?  Was it common practice for the factory to place two dash marks at the paint code location of the tag?
Title: Re: Carolina Blue/Powder Blue '69

If you read the link Kurt provided above, the answer is there.

For 69 the two place color code represented the bottom color in the first position, and the top color in the second position. The codes do not indicate stripe color, stripe color was based on the body, top, and interior color, There is an chart on this site that identifies the stripe color based on that info. Any non-standard paint was indicated by the - - code. That could be a special pain color, non standard stripe color, or stripe delete. If there is a special paint, and a rag or vinyl top on a special paint cat, the first - indicates special paint, but the top color is still designated by the second code. An example would be your Carolina blue with a black vinyl top coded - B, instead of - -. so custom paint color with a black vinyl, or convertible top.

Your right, I should have taken my own advise...at any rate, thank you for explaining the posted link.

You read between the lines.  This is exactly what I am trying to find out.  Did the car come w/o stripes.  You mentioned the - - code could indicate stripe delete.  This car has the  (-E) which is Parchment (off white).  Would it be safe to say that this car came with the stripes?  Or, is the only way of knowing for certain is with the build sheet?

The Concorso has come and gone and it was an experience me and my family will never forget!  The event began with an evening reception for all entrants and guests.  The atmosphere and diner was exceptional.  The evening ended with a conversation and open forum between Sr. Sterling Moss, Al Unser and the rest of us.  Sr. Sterling is an incredable speaker and captivated the audience as he spoke of the many races he is famous for.  Al Unser spoke about several topics but the most interesting was his thoughts of technology of then and now.

The next day was a hundred mile tour for all entrants.  When I first heard of this I had assumed it was more of a parade type tour.  This could not have been farther from the truth.  The tour began at Buffalo Thunder to destination Villas Caldera in the Jemez mountains.  A change in elevation of some 6,000ft.  The tour was lead by a 2011 Bentley...this should give you an idea of what the Concorso had in mind.  Yup...it was a race to the top of the mountain with state troppers following close behind.  It was great legally blowing the top off of the posted speed limit.  Needless to say, our 350 small block didn't even come close to winning.

The next day was the show.  Lets just say, the whole time I was wondering what the heck I was doing there.  I was flanked by a 1/2million $ Dino Ferrari and several 1.5 to 1.7m Ferrari's and a '61 Aston Martin.  All class winners were mega $ cars and the Best of Show went to Ralph Lauren's 1938 Delahaye Type 145 V12 Coupe Chassis 48772 valued at well over 2m.

The '69 did draw a lot of attention and showed very well.  We brought back several items from the show including a beautiful ribbon for competing in the Tour but most importantly, memories that will last a life time.

Hey Guys,
Being from central NC and growing up in the 60,s and 70,s I can tell you that Carolina Blue cars were not rare here. A friend of mine had a 69 Z28 in about 71 that I am sure had the factory paint. Another friend ordered a Carolina Blue 68 L78 chevelle new and was well known here. It had a black vinyl top as did a 69 or 70 L78 Nova that was well known.I also remember a 70 Monte Carlo the same colors and a 67 SS Chevelle which I think is here and still owned by the original owner if I can find him. Another friend ordered a 78 Monte Carlo Carolina Blue with a white vinyl top which he sold later to brother. Carolina fans here are serious fans and during the 70,s the color was not a strange thing to see. If I locate L. Steele and his 67 ss chevelle I will check the paint code and post it.

Thanks for the info Kelley.  Anything you can add to this thread would be great.  Keep in mind there were only two colors offered by GM in '69 for this light blue paint.  One was an Olds color; Powder Blue (like mine) and a Buick color; Azure Blue both of which are Code "80".  Correct me if I'm wrong but all of the information I have gathered from this site as well as from Camaro Tech is that Carolina Blue did not surface until 1970 ???

So, if your friends '69 Z was factory painted it would have been one of these two colors.

That's not true. A special paint order could be any color. It's easiest to spec out a current 69 color from another carline, but it could have been a Mopar color too.

Thank you KurtS.  Like I mentioned several times before, compared to you and other members of this site I am a fledgling but I'm learning.

In addition, I would like to thank you for mentioning Jeremiah.  We have begun communicating and it's amazing how well he remembers the car.  He never knew this thread existed and he still mentioned every single option the car came with.  He also mentioned the car is stripe delete.  Given Jeremiah's knowledge of the car I don't doubt this at all.  Even so, I would like to talk to these other two gentlemen before I commit to removing them.  He has just given me two important contacts.  The gentleman that presented the car for sale at WWMC and the person that restored the car just prior to it's sale.

Jeremiah also knew the owner of the car before it sold at WWMC.  He was a close personal friend of his.

I will keep you posted.

I have been in contact with the gentlemen that restored the car who also lives in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  As it turns out he is also one of the previous owners/partners of the car.  From what we have been able to piece together there have been six or seven owners which includes myself and Patricia Murray.  According to Mr. :-X he did a complete "mild" frame on restoration prior to the sale at WWMC and in his words, "it really didn't need it".  I am still trying to find out the extent of the restoration.  He also mentioned that it was the best looking and best handling car he has ever seen, his words not mine.  I'm sure there are 200k+ 1st gen C-owners that would disagree.  He also said that he has tried tracking the car down because he wanted to buy it back.

He also described all of the options to a tee and the only item on the car that might not be stock is the alternator.  No build sheet, but he did mention that the only place he didn't look were the pillar's and the gas tank.  So there's still a chance.  I also had a question concerning the space saver tire that I purchased for the car based on the t-lid sticker illustrating this tire.  I have seen sticker reproductions and this certainly wasn't one of them.  So I had assumed it had come with the car.  He stated that the car had the SST in the car before it sold at WWMC.  Thank God, because it took me about a year to track down the correct tire and canister.  Another item/items that I purchased were deluxe belts, and again it was tough to locate the right belts with the correct date codes, etc. and Mr. :-X stated that the car had deluxe belts but that WWMC removed them and replaced them with standard belts.  He stated this even before I mentioned I had purchased replacements.

Now for the GM Executive story...Totally fabricated but I won't tell anyone if you won't.  Seems WWMC had to build interest on their cars and this was one of many ways, so I've been told.  So KurtS...as much as I hate to admit it, you were right...again ::)

He is trying to track down the second owner so there might be more to this story.  I have all the names except for this one individual...Jim __.

Forgot to mention...Mr. :-X also stated the car is stripe delete.  At any rate I'm not really sure I want to remove them.  From what I've been able to research, the hockey stripes have been applied correctly.  The fendor portion has been painted on and extends slightly beyond the front lower fendor seam and the doors have been applied with stick-ons.  If you have a chance please weigh in; stripe on or off.  At the end of this month your vote will tell me what to do.

Thanks

I hope I don't tick-off too many people with this question but I have to ask it one more (promise) time.  No one answered this the first time it was asked so please be patient with me.  What is this Carolina Blue?  Please give me a paint code, dealerships/company etc. that offered it.  I would like to get my hands on this color chart.  Or...is this just a case of Carolinian's adopting Powder Blue as their own?

If you could get this color from just about any car manufacturer does anyone know what these colors were called.  If not can you offer recommendations on how this can be researched?

With all due respect, and I mean this sincerely...the only thing mentioned is that people have seen Carolina blue cars.  The other is that GM offered two special paint options under code 80 which is powder blue and azure blue, which I posted.  No one has given information on how this Carolina blue color came to be...

Carolina Blue is team color for sports teams at the University Of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. They paint the streets blue when they win big games. The busses and firetrucks in Chapel Hill are Carolina Blue. Tarheel fans are serious people who are often seen wearing Carolina Blue everything. Back in the 60,s and 70,s Carolina Blue cars were very popular here and still are. The Duke fans even liked it but we called it Baby Blue. The cruize ins and shows are slowing down here but there are a few more. If I find A real one I will check the codes and post.

80 was the GM paint code. Different names for different brands (Buick, Pontiac, Olds, whichever), but the same color. A - - paint code indicates special order paint. That is all  - - tells you. Could be any GM color except for some of the Caddy only colors. Could be a special fleet color not standard on any line. Could also be non standard stripe color, or it could be stripe delete. Powder Blue = Azure Blue = GM paint code 80.  Code 80 was not offered on the 69 Camaro, but if you knew how, it could be special ordered. Hope this helps.

Carolina/Colorado blue could be any custom color that someone requested. Doesn't have to be 80, but it often is, IMO.

Thanks Kelley, Tom & Kurt!  This is exactly what I was searching for.  Kelley, I certainly understand a states commitment to its collegian sports.  UNC is without question a powerhouse worthy of this support.  Trust me when I say if UNM Football wasn't 3rd worst in the Nation I would consider my other muscle car dedicated to their program (cherry/red) as well.  Oh well, there's always next season, & next season, &...

Tom & Kurt, this pretty much sums up both sides of the spectrum.  Those that choose a GM Special Paint and those that choose from a different company or manufactures paint-line.  Those that choose to order outside of GM in turn identified these other colors as UNC, UCLA, Carolina and Colorado...Blue.  Am I close?  At any rate, thanks again for being patient with me.  I know this thread has been frustrating.

Pardon my ignorance, what is IMO?

I have attached a GM Color Chart which I'm certain most of you have seen.  Hopes this helps a little.  (at least I think I've attached it.  First try...)

SORRY...BLEW THE ATTACHMENT!

There are no stickers on the radiator shroud of a Camaro, only the tune up spec sticker that goes on the core support, unless the car had A/C and then it went on the front edge of the radiator shroud.

I have had two unrestored AC equiped cars, one had the decal in the center of the shroud and the other was on the side. I probably depended on who was working the line at the time and what they thought looked best?

Actually, just saying center or side is probally good enough. These stickers weren't applied by robots.

For the tune up spec sticker, the best thing to do is follow what the 69 AIM says....
A little WD40 followed by some rubbing compound might get some of that old glue out from the CAUTION sticker. I'd try this in an unnoticable place first.  There is a sticker remover on the market, but I've never tried it.

It's on that sheet. It's item #3 in view "A", to be positioned 3.5" to the left of centerline on top of the radiator support. Although not shown on that sheet, if the car had A/C and the rubber hood seal across the top of the radiator support, it had to be placed elsewhere (on the shroud).

heavy duty rubbing compound works great for loosening old adhesive. It also cleans wire shielding and rubber hoses like the RS vacuum hoses without removing the collor coding.

Thanks J.

I had some free time so I tried it.  I think I know why the big ugly sticker was on there.  Someone was trying to hide some deep scratches.  I had to start out w/400-600-800-1200 sandpaper.  Then to the compounds red and white (started this yesterday).  Problem is that even the white/polishing compound leaves a dull finish even after two hours of polishing.  What I had to do is prep this last step for painting.  After paint will buff lightly to get (hopefully) the desired look.  If it doesn't work I'll just have to replace it.  Too bad it isn't stainless or aluminum...I'd know what to do...

I'll post the results...good or bad...

This was just a quick fix for a local show this weekend and the shroud will be replaced.  There are a couple problems with this fix.  In hindsight I should have known from the beginning this wasn't going to work.  No telling how long the sticker had been there and the glue eat into the plastic plus as I mentioned earlier there were some deep scratches, and you cannot use abrasives on plastic.  The second problem is that now the shroud has two different mediums, paint and plastic w/o paint. So, if you apply vinyl, plastic or any other type of detailer the painted surface is much brighter.  The photo shows the shroud only with color sanding and nothing else.

Aside from detailing color change it actually turned out better than expected.

Oh well, chalk it up to experience/lack thereof...

Thanks for the pick of your wife's car w/tag J!!! Do you know if it was a Van Nuys build? BTW great looking engine bay. Can you send me pics of your cars etc., once you've settled in?

As for the Carolina Blue car, if you recall its the same car Nikke tried to pass off as a Carolina Blue on this same thread on Sept. 19, pg 3. For one thing its an RS w/an SS Hood. The other giveaways...the body tag looks suspicious and it was listed in Deals on Wheels and now eBay...not very good sources for an original... IMO.

Its a norwood car as was the other AC equiped car I had with the decal in the center of the shroud.. will do on the pics.

Hes not trying to pass it off as an SS eqipped car though, probably just didnt like the standard hood look, I cant say I wouldnt have done the same thing. I personally didnt see an issue with the cowl tag, maybe you know something I dont?

Thanks for the info with regards to the decal.

I'm just not sure how you can get a body tag so clean w/o affecting the surrounding area.  If paint remover or sanding was used the paint on the cowl would have been affected in some way and you would be able to see touch-up black somewhere.  The cowl paint looks too consistant right up to the edges of the tag.  Just an observation, nothing more.

There is something on the paint code that I'm unfamiliar with and maybe you can help me out...next to the dash (-) is the letter C followed by PNT.  Is this the code for Carolina?

The first dash denotes special paint and the second being the "C" means it had a dark blue vinyl top. Not sure about the differences between norwood cars and VN cars or if they differed.

As for the cowl tag being original it looks legit to me. I have cleaned cowl tags before with laquer thinner and a rag without affecting the firewall paint. They acually looked much nicer than that one.

There was Groth Chevrolet in Huntington Beach back then. They were at 18211 Beach Blvd. Some others were Connell Chevrolet in Costa Mesa, Guaranty Chevrolet in Santa Ana and Cone Chevrolet in Fullerton. People did not necessarily buy cars from the same town they lived in though. That whole area has tons of choices for Chevrolet dealerships and they may have gone to a place that had a large inventory or that they thought gave a good deal.

When a woman thinks of the ideal rare First Gen Camaro, it is one with all the comforts of home, user friendly, and a striking color that is all female. For the car girl that has everything, this is that car and the only one known to exist.

This car sold on December 12, 1968 to Patricia Murray from Huntington Beach California, at Fletcher Chevrolet, Encino, California for $4,590.24. The Chevrolet Corvette & Ford Shelby GT500 sold for the same price in '69. The '69 Z28 sold for less. Only the '69 Yenko & Zl1 sold for more.

What makes this car comparable in price to the above list of highly sought after classics? It was ordered with 28 factory options. Many of which are extremely rare. Not only is this the most highly (Factory) rare optioned '69 Camaro ever built, it is the most highly rare optioned First Gen period. I realize this is a bold statement but I have researched these cars for almost 10 years. In the most informative First Gen on-line sites. Not once has one showed up with this many rare options, all in one package.

Having all these options in a First Gen Camaro is enough to satisfy any First Gen enthusiast, but what really sets this car apart from all the rest is it's "Special Order Paint" option: GM Paint Code 80; "Powder Blue". This is the only known '69 Camaro out of 243,932 built that came off the "ASSEMBLY-LINE" with this "FACTORY" color. In addition, this GM paint code was not available in '67 or '68, which adds to the rarity of this GM color.

Options; RS pkg, SS pkg, Special Order Paint, Am/Fm "Blue Light" Stereo, Electric Clock, Center Console, Head Restraints, Deluxe Seat Belts, Speed Warning Device, Auxiliary Lighting Group, Air Conditioning, Tilt Steering Column, Power Windows, Steering Wheel & Dash Wood-grain Accents, Power Steering, Power Brakes, Vanity Mirror, Light Monitoring System, Mirror-Outside Left Remote Control, Space Saver Spare, Front & Rear Bumper Guards, Spoiler, Vinyl Roof, Tinted Glass (original), Stripe Delete, & SS Chevelle Type Wheel, Spoiler, Guards- Door Edge.

A bit of trivia: 1969 vs 2016 buying power; The Am/Fm "Blue Light" Stereo sold for $239.10 = to $1,499.16. A/C sold for $376.00 = to $2,357.52. Tilt Steering Column sold for $45.30 = to $284.03. Power Steering sold for $94.80 = to $594.40. Power Brakes sold for $42.15 = to $264.28. Light Monitoring System sold for $26.35 = to $165.21. Mirror-Outside Left Remote Control sold for $10.55 = to $66.15. Vinyl Roof sold for $84.30 = to $528.56. Soft Ray Tinted Glass sold for $32.65 = to $204.72. SS Chevelle Type Wheel (available for Camaro SS Prior to 1/08/69) sold for $75.00 = to $470.25.

The documentation of this car is extensive & is cataloged in a 187 page book complete with photo's which can be made available to those interested.

Can be seen by appointment only.

Not a new restoration but shows like it is.

PLEASE; SERIOUS INQUIRES ONLY!

FOR THE RECORD: There has been car bashing on First Gen Camaro sites with regards to rare cars which is usually justified. However, this car is the exception & a guy can only stomach so much trash talk. This listing has only been posted for less than two days & they've already started.

A First Gen "Expert" states this is the only GM Paint Code 80 First Gen Camaro he's seen come out of Los Angeles (Van Nuys Assembly Plant). This same "Expert" has the largest data-base of First Generation Camaros known. However, he claims there may be 5 or 6 others & the more irritated he became the higher his numbers went. . .go figure. If this is the case those cars would have been built at the Norwood Assembly Plant & to this day he has yet to provide proof of his statement. All he can come up with is those cars have paint names such as Carolina Blue or Colorado Blue. GM's 1969 paint chart does not have such names. The only logical explanation is those cars & perhaps others like them were painted after they left the assembly plant.

I have seen 1 or 2 of these other cars. Their colors are very poor representations of this GM Code 80 paint. Let's just say for the sake of argument 1 or even 2 of those other cars are legit. That would be 4.1 to 8.2% of all '69 Camaros built & almost none existent when you consider the number of '67 & '68 models built.

I have added the "1969 General Motors Corporation" paint chart to the photos so you can see for yourself; nowhere are those so called names (Carolina Blue or Colorado Blue) listed as factory colors.

Sorry, the car just went up 10k.

LOL...I had a LS6 Chevelle in that blue. Same blue no matter what you choose to call it. I personally would like it better if it was a different color. Nice car anyway.

Very nice car. The owner was an avid member here. Not sure what went down. I helped him with some inflation calculations a while back and really enjoyed him. Hope his car sells!

Here in NC it was also refered to as Baby Blue. And as I have said I have seen it on Camaros, chevelles, novas, and monte carlos. Being from Durham (few miles from UNC Chapel Hill, their city limits now touch) the color was not rare here. I know of people who actually bought them new so they were not repaints A man named Long ordered a L78 68 chevelle in that color. I see him at local shows sometimes, if I do again I will talk to him about it.

I remember when this car was in Oklahoma.   Nice car with lots of options.  Anyone have any idea what the seller is talking about re "bashing"?   I didn't see anything in this thread that bashed the car.

If it is still in NM, I am guessing the seller is IZRSSS?

He may've been referring to me, and the other thread I started. I just thought "rarest" Camaro has been over used, as much as "rare" has. Also rare does or rarest doesn't always = worth more.

I guess what I took away from all that was how the car was all talked up, researched, rare this and that, and compared to ZL1's and COPO's, along with the hefty asking price, I would have expected to see a total frame off car and many more pictures.

So what are you saying Bullitt?   Sometimes things are rare for a reason??  ;D  LOL

It's not a bad color, but I don't think it would make my top ten list of favorite colors.

All I am saying is it may be rare (like the car -- Z/28 that need not be mentioned) but I think it may also be a smaller market for such cars.

I think cars like those would do best at a well know auction house, that would really promote it. The guys who like the rare colored cars seem to be drawn to the big stage auction events, it seems to me.
