Title: Solenoid??
Post by: jacmac on May 31, 2010, 12:32:39 AM
Now that I know what the pink wire from my wiring harness is for, what exactly do I call it? Carb idle control,Idle stop solenoid, anti dieseling solenoid, are a few of the names that I have seen! Ive done some research  at CRG,& Team Camaro, but I still not sure weather my car actually came with one.Ive owned the car since 76 maybe someone removed it before I bought it!Does it have to do with AC or or something else? My car is a 69 Z10 L35 turbo 400 AC  04C . Ive looked in the AIM on page 356,367 & 376 just not sure yet! Thanks

It's an anti-dieseling solenoid, and was unique to engines used with Powerglide and THM; that's why it's shown in the M35 and M40 sections of the A.I.M. When the engine was running, the energized solenoid held the throttle plate slightly open in the curb idle position; when the key was turned off, the solenoid retracted and allowed the throttle plate to close completely in order to prevent "dieseling" ("running-on").

Thanks John I do see it under M40 on page 376 ,but that is for a L78! So I would assume that it has nothing to do with AC?How would I know if my car came with it?

It appears that the solenoid was only used on the L-78 with M40, but not on the L-34 or L-35 with M40; the wire for the solenoid was part of the L-78/M40 engine harness.

My original harness came with the solenoid wire so I assume it is the same as my "heater wire #14 orange" which is NOT USED because the car came with AC .Thanks for your time John
