Title: spider gear thrust
Post by: ibfootin on May 29, 2010, 06:19:38 PM
OK.  I need some help.
I was changing the rear axle seals (12 bolt posi).  I am in the process of putting it back together when I see one of the thrust washers has fallen out from behind the spider gear.  Is there a trick to sliding it back in behind the gear without messing the washer?

You might have to pry on it a little with a flattip to get all the slack out  but it should slide in fairly easy.  No special way of doing it.

I tried prying on the gear but it felt like I was going to damage the washer if I forced it too much under the gear

Pull the chunk and disassemble it and put it back in is the only other way I know of.  No big deal just a little extra work. Be sure to torque everything back down.
