That looks like a standard (non-remote) mirror base.  They come in a round or rectangular shape.  Just make sure you get the right one for the year of your car.

i knew it wasnt the remote because it dosent have a hole in th black plastic piece to the cable to go through. But i was confused because all the non remote mirrors i have seen had a squarish mounting shape. Does anyone have a link to a place where i can get the right one and all its hardware?  BTW my car is a 04A Norwood 68

Now that you mention it, it is sort of rounded...
Anyway, the "replacement originals" come as a kit with bracket, gasket and screws.  It ought to fit in the same screw holes.
Lot's of places have them.  Here's Eckler's repo:

Of course, you can pay two hundred dollars for an original type on the same site.
I bought mine at a local place, but most of the mail order places have the same thing.

Also, take a look at this, before you put it on:

I'm going to stick by my original statement... which included "make sure you get the right year for your car".  I knew I had seen a rounded gasket on a Chevy before... Take a look at these two sites:

http://www.mrnomad.com/product.asp?pid=658&scid=32&wf=cat

http://www.paddockparts.com/Paddock/productr.asp?pf%5Fid=W1025&gift=False&0=dept%2Easp%2Cdept%5Fid%3D5%26menu%5Fid%3D%26Tree%3D%2CCamaro&1=dept%2Easp%2Cdept%5Fid%3D137%26menu%5Fid%3D%26Tree%3D0%2CCamaro%20Mirrors&2=product%5Ffamily%2Easp%2Cfamily%5Fid%3D3116%26Tree%3D1%2CMirror%20Gaskets&HSLB=False&mscssid=0D713F7FD2C449E29C81BA364769F28A

I also checked The Paddock, Classic, Rick's, Ground Up, and Old Muscle Cars, they all show the same squared off base like Ecklers for a 68 Camaro.  I've had my 68 (December, Norwood) judged twice with squared off mirror base and received no deductions for it.

So is the rounded off base mirror not origional? And that these remaining parts were from a 55-57 chevy?

That's what it looks like from the picture(s).

The metal piece (in your picture) which attaches to the body and base of the mirror also looks too wide for a 68 mirror.  But I'll be the first to admit that there could be some sort of exception.  I've just never seen it.  Years ago, I did own a 57, but my sister (whom I have forgiven) totaled it.

Let me suggest that you email Bertfam (Ed Bertrand) with the picture and ask him. If the gasket has a part # on it, tell him that, as well.  I'm not trying to speak for him (and do not presume to), but I do know he has a P&A that covers 68 parts.  I've emailed with him about the P&A.  I'd love to find one, but they are expensive!

Looks like the original part number for a 68 Camaro ourside mirror gasket was 3927398
