Title: My new Z10 project
Post by: another kurt s on April 21, 2010, 06:46:15 PM
Found this car after sitting in the Arizona desert for 17 years.  Amazing it has zero rot under all that surface rust.

712 is deluxe black interior I think, not sure how many they made with this combo.  Jacmac, what can you tell us about your Z10?   Start a new post with some pics so we can follow your build,  I am sure we are curious what everyone has.

I sandblasted the inner fenders, trans cross member, windshield mechanism, headlight mechanism and a few other pieces today.  Gonna rain here in Arizona so I needed to clean up my homemade blast booth so the sand stays dry.  The body is blasted, primed and undercoated in the trunk and interior floor.  Bottom of car is primed and finished with Por 15 chassis black.  Subframe is painted, all bushing, ball joints, etc. installed and ready to assemble, should have it rolling with in a week or two.   Cars ready to go for paint but my buddy had a 62 thunderbird coil spring pin his hand so there will be a slight set back.  ahh, the adventures of a gear head...

I dont know how to post pics on the board ,I know you need to down size them, not to good with computer.I just bought a digital cam about 4 mo. ago, havent put any pics in computer yet,but I have some old pics if you want I can e-mail them to you.Wish I had one when I started my restoration. Anyway bought Z10 3-15-76 ,didnt know what it was when I bought it,just wanted a 69 camaro with RS option.I knew paint was original, but didnt know why it had orange strips!Last driven Sept 79,started restoration Nov 2002.Im almost done,Need to finish the interior, engine compartment wiring&RS hoses ect. Im not sure I should have restored this car,it has always been  stored indoors,no rust, original paint ect. I refurbished every original part I could so there is not to much aftermarket parts on the car.It would have been a great survivor! Options included are PS,PFDB,AC,Tilt wheel,L35,turbo 400,Deluxe B/W hounds tooth interior,Console.I did put the console gauges in, back in 76. 124379N,04C .Im in Vegas so if your in town stop by!

Wow, sounds like a great car!  And you have owned it since 76?, how did you keep from diving it all this time?  Ya, we all did things to cars in the past that make us groan now but I know what you mean, I have a huge soft spot for cars that have survived time with original paint.  I would MUCH rather drive a car that no one has touched than a perfect restored one.  just me.  That being said, I just started a nut and bolt ground up.  Go figure.

If you do some research you can figure out how to post.  I started a photo bucket account and now can post a link when ever I want.  We would all love to see your car.  We have similar cars but yours is a floor shift with a console and mine was a column shift and mine has air.  Today I got the subframe on and blasted the inner fenders, should have the front on in the next week.  Glad to hear from you, have you registered it with Kurt S yet. I think he has around 120 or so.
