Does anyone have a picture of John Z vacuum setup. My 302 is running alright and I was wondering about doing Johns setup on the car. Do I need to do any other changes when I do the vacuum setup John suggests

Yes if I could remember what I use to know .Have you tried this vacuum hookup.Did it work without any other adjustments to the engine?

If you mean from ported to full, I did as per John's advice. I only adjusted the carb afterwords for optimum vacuum. But I also changed my can to an Echlin VC-1810.

Yes I am going to the full vacuum from ported. Is the idle at the carb the only thing to readjust? Thanks again

Pretty much, unless you want to check dwell/timing while you have your head under there.

I am having some difficulty finding the vacuum advance that John Z recommends. Any idea where they can be bought?

Yes I did read it and checked 3 different suppliers. I did not find a store that had any of them listed in stock. I will keep looking. Thanks

Rockauto.com has one VC-177 left for about 3 bucks.
They also list the D1316C as being a non stock item available for 14.38.
I've got half a dozen of various Vacuum advance cans that I bought while I was searching for the best one for my car.

I buy quite a few of them, and GMPartsDirect.com has them - GM #88924985, AC-Delco #D1312C. Only one company makes them (Standard), and the others re-box them; all are stamped "B28" on the bracket. They used to be boxed as the VC-1810 - starts pulling at 4" Hg., fully-deployed at 8" Hg., providing 15*-16* of advance.

From what I've been told the B28 can has been discontinued for some time. You will have to call around with the numbers supplied in this post to try to find one in stock somewhere.

Called around and cannot seem to find a B28 canister. My car has a B16 now and with Johns vacuum setup the car is a lot more streetable for cruising. Thanks all Paul B

GM Parts Direct has them, I ran the number John posted and it's in stock. So does the other link I posted. So if you want one you can get one. Calling around will not prove successful. My supplier can't get one either.

Called GM anough at 12 dollars they are only available in the States. It will take 10 days to get a couple shipped up to Canada. Seem cheap en

Get the B28 if you can. They are ideal for High perf. low vac. engines.

I buy them six at a time from GMPartsDirect.com for $6.50 each.

I was able to drive across the border today and buy a couple B28 cannisters. Installing it tonight.

They must have disappeared when the site was hacked - here they are again; this is the factory setup.

Here's the second photo of the "driving" setup, with the distributor vacuum advance line connected to the tee in the choke pull-off hose where the diverter valve signal hose was connected on the factory setup.

I did this setup on my 68 Z and I must say it was the best thing I have done for the car. It is crazy how much nicer the 302 is to drive just by changing the canister and doing Johns vacuum setup . It takes five minutes but what a improvement for the street.
