Title: hurst shifter problem ?
Post by: kid56 on March 28, 2010, 11:49:04 PM
Hi guys, having shifter problem, muncie M20 in 67 camaro, Hurst comp plus shifter. It used to have a spring action when putting it into reverse
(I assume it is a reverse lock out), now you can move the shifter freely( side to side in neutral) from reverse to 3rd and 4th with no resistance.
Is there a spring that has broken or does the shifter need rebuilt? I have adjusted the rods several times no help.
thanks for any help

Have you changed the linkage adjustment.  When i put mine back together I was off a little on the shift gate and it was a little more difficult to feel the reverse spring

It's probably a spring or a tension plate that broke. The plates in the shifter have a bow in them for tension and if they break you get slack. Might need to go ahead with a rebuild.
