I have a 69 Camaro and am not sure of the build date. The cowl tag and VIN read as follows:
ST6912437 NOR184530BDY
TR 713 7272 PNT
11C X22D80
VIN: 124379N711675
Was the car built in November 68 or November 69 ?
Thanks
-
You have a November 1969 build car. Production ended at the Norwood plant at about #711700 for the Camaros.
-
x code would not have been on a nov 68 build
-
Are you certain of the 11C date?
-
Yes, the 11C is very clear on the cowl tag.
-
It's a little out of range according to Jerry's book but it is Nov. 69. He has the VIN's ending with 711600 so it would be 75 over the end run.
-
I'll check the VIN again to be sure i am correct.
-
Last 69 Norwood VIN was 711922.
-
On page 199 of Jerry's book he does state 711600 as the end of production at Norwood. But on page 201 of the same book he states production ended at Norwood " around 711700". I was surprised also on the 11C date but the serial number seems to put it in the last day or so of production.
-
An 11C build date did not exist for November of '69.
I'll bet you can figure out the rest.
-
cowl tag not real !!
-
Unfortunately correct. Whoever had it made used data for an 11C of '68 build. The highest body numbers at the end of '69 production were in the mid-16xxxx range.
Had good taste in color and equipment though!

Is it legal to alter the trim tag on a car to influence the value ?
-
Don't know about legality of altering a trim tag, no regs I'm aware of. Fraud however is illegal, and I would expect altering anything to sell it for more than it's actual value would be considered fraud. Just my opinion.
-
Has anyone in this forum experienced this, and if so does anyone no of an attorney that would give advise on something like this ? Unfortunatley the engine was also a restamp!
-
I'd talk with Bryan Shook. He's an attorney out of PA.
Your car had its tag lost over 10 years ago. I believe the car was black originally and in the IL area. No much other info on it.
-
If i am not mistaken the title had been reg. in Illinoise or Indiana previously before it was titled in Florida.
What do you mean by the tag was lost 10 years ago, and can this lawyer be easily found ?
Just wanted to say thanks for all the help!!!!!!!

Here's another attorney who specializes in collector car fraud:

THANKS!

There have been many threads on this over at Team Camaro. Some people have recovered their money and others haven't. I believe Beudelynn or something like that is an atty and is knowledgeable about the topic. Give some of those parameters a search there.
-
An 11C build date for a 69 would be Nov of 68! If it was for Nov 69 it would be for a 1970 model year.

Except in Oklahoma, I believe. It is illegal there. Seems to me fraud is fraud. Changing the TT is not bad by itself unless it is to represent a car as a BB car or Z/82 etc. If it was to change a 6 cyl yellow to a 6 cyl black would not be an issue.

I spoke with someone from trim tag yesterday and he thought the 69 year model was produced through the end of the year (for 18 months) can anyone shed any light on this?
-
69 production ran into Nov 69. http://www.camaros.org/geninfo.shtml#HowMany
-
I stand corrected, I didn't know they were produce at the Norwood plant through Nov of 69. Man they must have had a shit load of back orders!

The production was extended due to the building problems with the new second generations.

They only built another 20K more 69s than 67's and 8000 more than the 68 model year, so there aren't a bunch more 69s than any other year. They just built them for 3 more months. If production had ended in July there would have been less 69s than any other year.
-
Just my luck. Somebody finally give me something that might be worth some money and there's more of them than any other year. LOL

Not sure what else to say. The car used to be in IL and the tag was lost back then.....
