Title: 230 OR 250 C.I. 6 cylinder
Post by: HOGDADDY on March 15, 2010, 07:58:49 AM
Is there anyway to tell what engine originally came in my 67 convertible?
I have often wondered whether it was a 230 or a 250.
Also is there any data showing how many of each engine were porduced in 67 Camaro's?

Engine qty. listed here:

Also, how about checking the pad stamp for CI size?

The original engine is long gone but was wandering if there was other indicators as to what size it was originally.

The base L26 engine (230/140) didn't have any engine size marker on the front fenders. All other engines including the L22 (250/155) came with engine size designation on the front fenders. Check to see if you have any holes on the rear of the front fender under the "Camaro" emblem. That might give you a clue to what the car originally came with.

In 67, only the 250 engine got the fender emblems, if the fenders are original.
Other than that, none that I know of (68 & 69 too). The L6 engines were pretty much the same except for the displacement.

I remember seeing a broken piece of a red white & blue shield that came off original fender but don't remember seeing any engine designation and I can't remember if it had holes for it either.

If you can locate some past owners, they may have pictures of the car as produced, with or without the 250 emblem.

If that's the case (and it was the original fender), then your car had the optional L22 (250/155) engine.
