Title: RS SS Interior help
Post by: 69houdini on February 23, 2010, 08:04:49 PM
Looking for some quick help. Ready to purchase a 69 RS SS Coupe. I know pretty much what I am looking for and at except it has the black 711 standard interior. Should it come with the Z23 special interior or is that strictly optional. I wasn't sure if every RS was exterior and interior or just exterior. Thanks

Style trim (Z21) could be ordered by itself, but was included in the RS (Z22) package.

Hi Tom, So every SS RS car should not come with the standard black int. Is that correct? It should have the Z33 special int.

My plain vanilla 69 with 307, powerglide and standard interior has z21 style trim. Style trim has interior and exterior parts. Style trim is not based on deluxe or standard interior. As far as I know, an RS could have either interior, in any available color.

RS equipment included a small RS badge on the standard steering wheel shroud. That's it, no other interior features included.

Thanks for your guys help, this car I am looking to purchase is a RS SS and it seems kind of plain inside. I mean it has the wood grain center steering wheel with the SS emblem and the wood grain console but I thought since it was an RS it would have the fancier door panels and interior. Not just the RS exterior with the grill and closing headlights and backup lights. I guess everything was an option back then RS exterior and RS interior could be ordered seperately then. I thought it was a whole pkg. including interior and exterior. I have seen a lot of RS SS cars with both fancy and plain door panels but I wasn't sure what was correct. This one has the plain door panels and seats. From what I see that would be correct also. Am I understanding this right?

Yes, NO interior upgrades were included with RS.

Just to clarify, there was no RS interior. RS was only exterior.
Deluxe interior was RPO Z87.

Nope. Neither SS nor RS had anything to do with the interior trim level. All Camaros came with the "standard" interior unless you ordered the RPO Z87 Deluxe Interior separately, which included the upgraded seats and door trim panels, full woodgrain treatment on the dash, etc.

Thanks again, going down this morning to pay for the car. Will be asking more questions once I start restoring it.

RS didn't affect the interior, but the included z21 style trim did. Off the top of my head, stainless pedal trim, wood trim left side of dash, passenger grab bar. Also included wheel well trim, bright drip rail moulding, rocker blackout.

Nope. Two separate options involved here - the interior decor package you described was RPO Z23 (which was also included in the Z87 Deluxe Interior), and the Z21 Style Trim (which was also included in the Z22 RS option) was exterior only (pinstripes, bright wheel opening moldings and roof drip, quarter panel gills, rocker blackout, headlight and taillight brightwork, etc.).

Hi Tom and John, Yes this has got both options as you have described, however there was one repaint so the pin striping and the rockers were not painted black. Bought the car yesterday.

I keep learning. I was under the impression all I mentioned was part of the style trim option.

Just to clarify, although it doesn't apply to your car, when Z21 Style Trim was ordered on a Z/28 (which made it an X33 car), the pinstripes over the wheel openings were not included.

Camaro exterior options generally did not affect interior features and vise-versa. Camaro was different from some other GM car lines in this way.
