What is the correct factory finish for 68 327 Heat Stove? Typically most are finished in the color as the exaust manifolds.I do not think this correct becuase the the manifolds were castings and the heat stove were stamped steel.Also the heat stove tube was painted black.
I attached a pic of my engine with heat stove installed.

The heat stove was installed at the car assembly plant, so it's not orange - I don't recall if it was zinc-plated, galvanized, or painted black.

Here's a 69 350 black pipe. Would the finish be different from the 68? Except for the obvious, it would appear the pipe at least has been untouched.

The pipe was black, rest some kind of silver finish.

The exhaust manifolds were installed at the engine plant.
The heat stove was riveted to the manifold, right? At least on the manifolds I've had they were. Seems like that would be done before the manifold was installed.
The heat stove was plated in some form - galvanized or ?? Not too dissimilar from what is on newer cars....

I read a word that was not there..."pipe". On that note, I concur with Kurt. Stove was galvy.

The studs and stove are in UPC M35 A22 of the AIM ,

In 68, it was galvanized finish and bolted to the exhaust manifold using 2 exhaust manifold bolts. The tube bolted to the heat stove using one small sheet metal screw. I just finish de-rusting mine and it cleaned up very nice with a light wire wheel and scotchbrite pad. I then used a VHT Flameproof high temp clear which gave it a nice sheen and cured the paint using a heat gun. Hopefully this will prevent rust from coming back.

??? I'm not so sure about that.......looks a lot like a gray paint on stamped metal.

Mike is correct. In 68 the stove pipe was blk, the stove was galv. The one pictured is not correct for the year. A 68 stove is wide and channels heat from the full length of the manifold and is a single piece stamping, unlike the 69 assembly design.
I see that the older pic posts were not recovered. I can post a pic of the assembly it it helps. The finish on my stove is not correct yet however.

Here is a pic of one that I restored using rust converter and abrasive pad. I did spray in clear coat high temp paint which gave it a little shine to prevent future rusting.

Yes, sorry the one I showed was for 1970. It was the finish I was trying to show... painted on metal Wouldn't have thought that the process for the finish would have changed...
I tried clear on my stove and it 'heated off' so will likely just go with hi-temp steel paint...
