Title: Tall distrubutor boss?
Post by: rua69z on January 31, 2010, 10:25:36 PM
I have read the topics which clarify the Z motors as a basic motor with Z/28 parts. I do have a question as to blocks I have seen for sale stating a Z block and some say a tall distributor boss can someone shed some light as to what this means?

i think what they are saying about a tall dist boss is under the intake where the dist passes through lifter valley of the block to connect to the cam is taller than a normal block.somebody correct me if im wrong on this

That's a big block issue, not small block.  Early and late BB's have different dist bosses under the intake.

The 3862194 oringinal 283 block in my wife's 1966 Chevy II has a tall distributor boss. Within 1/2 inch of where the center of the intake manifold sits.

Here's a picture of that 1966 small block with the tall distributor boss before I rebuilt it (sat in the barn for several years).
