Title: Door guards
Post by: Mphosix on January 26, 2010, 01:10:26 AM
Another question about the door guards that run horizonatally along the mid line of the front quarter panel, door and rear quarter panel....does anyone know if they were a factory option?  They appear to be factory guards and I have seen one other '68 with them.  The car is red with red guards.

I am not sure but I think you are talking about body side molding in the middle of the door and  has two small pieces on each end with one on the fender and one on the quarter. If this is it they are add on after market with rivets in the center to hold it on the car and the insert pushes into the guides.

Nope... edge guards yes, door guards no....
The options section here in CRG lists them all: click the CRG (red) button above and look under options.
I've seen them, too.  But that's a later aftermarket item.  Good idea though on a driver....

Those are RPO B84 Body Side Moldings, which were available on just about every Chevrolet model EXCEPT the Camaro; if you see them on a Camaro, they're aftermarket or dealer-applied.

Late response, but my ash gold 68 had them as well (black moldings).... From what I'm hearing, they were most likely a dealer add....   ripped em off, and soldered in the holes...   ;D

Dealers, body shops, over the counter.  Many were adding these to cars back in the day.  I think 3M was a big supplier, various widths, colors, etc.
