Attached below is a photo of the cowl tag from this car.  Are there any red flags?

LOS tags never had any build configuration data so there is little incentive to mess with them. The VIN is in line with the body date & schedule info of 09D, A381.

I believe the tag may have been off the car as the paint on it seems to differ from the area around it. It also appears there is paint under it. In production the tag was attached long before any painting was done.

I would not be concerned about it. However look inside the trunk at the area around the hinges to ensure the car was always orange.

Thanks William!  How can you tell if the cowl tag has been removed when inspecting a vehicle?  Also, do you have access to the CRG database?  Any information on this VIN?

After looking at thousands of tags over the last 35 years it is easy to determine when one has been removed. But that is more due to careless re-installation than my experience. Someone who knows what they are doing could indetectably r & r a tag.

It is not just repro tags that are a problem. Real tags were being swapped long before repos became available. Still going on: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevrolet-Camaro_W0QQitemZ140374951343QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item20aeffc5af

I do have db access; your VIN is not in the rev I have.

The next day I saw this car on ebay. As I said in the other post, engine and trans are restamps.

I can see the Trans stamp is a fake, but are you saying the firewall data plate is fake also or its not original, if so i was wondering how you can tell.

Thanks,
Vince

That isn't discussed in public as it gives the crooks ideas on how to make better fakes.
