Title: Insurance salvage Camaros
Post by: Big_Al on November 19, 2009, 05:11:03 PM
Has anyone ever gone this route to purchase a car?
Lots of Camaros here with what appears to be great prices.

Yeah, and if I remember correctly, somewhere on that site in tiny little letters and on some obscure page, they have a disclaimer that states something to the effect that those cars are shown as examples only and may not reflect the current inventory. But to get to that page you have to pay the $$$ and by that time they got you!!! It's a scam...

I thought it was too good to be true. Oh well, back to the country in search of that rare barn find.

Yep. Go over to Team Camaro and do a search on AUTOSOURCE (http://www.camaros.net/forums/search.php?searchid=4373192) and you'll have lots of good reading.

Wow! I posted this over at TC also. Guess I missed all the info they had on this scam.

Thanks for the heads up.

Barn Find? A friend takes yearly jaunts to obscure , out of the way backwoods areas. Some down south, some out west. He'll drive down dirt roads for miles in no man's land and ask the locals with old cars in their yards if they know anyone who has other old cars around. One sent him down a dirt road for many miles to find the place. Z/28s, A Superbird, Chevelles, Cudas, approx 20 cars. Scattered around and all needing completes. Some doable, others toast  Owners could not care less if they sold them or they rotted to the earth. "Been there done that". Drive around enough and you can find one. One homeowner would not let my friend look around until he saw his hands first. Upon satisfaction he was allowed.

Your friend sounds just like me. Although I can only travel around a few nearby states now, I do it for my rich friends. (my toys keep me far enough in the red) They are still turning up. Some years ago I found a complete '68 SS 396 with a cracked block way out in what we call 'God's country'. My friend bought it from the owner who considered it junk and was about to pay a local yard to have it hauled away!  I've been checked many times for tools also.

He was not checking his hands for tools. He wanted to see if he had office hands.

My mistake. My hands could never be mistaken for 'office hands' and I don't think I've ever been checked for that, just tools at many, many junk yards.
