JERRY,I LIVE IN MANCHESTER MD., AND I BELIEVE YOU LIVE CLOSE TO WESTMINSTER, I AM GOOD FRIENDS WITH BRIAN TILLES OF CORV ETTE SPEC. OF MD. AND HAVE WORKED FOR HIM. I HAVE OWNED THIS MOTOR SINCE 1982. I FOUND IT THROUGH AN ADD POSTED IN 1982 @ EASTERN SPEED CENTER .I BOUGHT THE COMPLETE SHORT BLOCK FOR $225. THE CAR WAS TOTALED IN 72, AND HAD 18,000 MILES. THE SELLER USED THE HEADS, INTAKE, TRANEY ETC. THE CAR SAT IN A MD. JUNK YARD FOR 10 YEARS AND THE OUTSIDE OF THE MOTOR HAD SURFACE RUST AND PITTING. THE BOSS IS PITTED BUT THE NUMBERS ARE LEGIBLE,. THE ENGINE INTERNALLY WAS IN EXCELLENT SHAPE AND IS NOW REBUILT WITH A STANDARD BORE. I PURCHASED THIS MOTOR FOR MY 69 Z ,WHICH LACKED IT'S ORIGINAL MOTOR .....DON

1024 is one of the last dates observed. I've seen one later date.
Did it have the original distributor?
-
NO DISTRIBUTOR. I DID WRITE DOWN THE VIN NUMBER, BEFORE I PAINTED THE BLOCK. "BY THE OIL FILTER". THIS INFO. IS NOW PACKED AWAY FOR MOVING, BUT I CAN SUPPLY IT AT A LATER DATE. THE BLOCK IS AN 010 CASTING. I ALSO REMEMBER THE MAIN BEARINGS BEING DATE CODED WHEN I TOOK THE MOTOR APART...........DON

Don,
The latest I have is 1022, we'll have to hook up so I can get some photos of the block stamp. Or, when ever you can shoot some nice clear photos. Should run the vin at the MVA to find original selling dealer.

-
Don,
Should run the vin at the MVA to find original selling dealer.
Jerry
How is this done???
-
Contact the MVA in Glen Burnie, MD. All records available and cost is about $8 per title owner back to the MSO. Good docs from the state of Maryland. That's about the only thing this state is good for!

Could I also call the state of Idaho to get the info on my car? this would just give me the info of what dealer sold the car right? where can you find other info besides previous owners? Thanks and hope I am not side tracking you Don.
-
Go to Glen Burnie, Title/File Room, at first they may refuse due to privacy laws but tell them you are not interested in personal information and it can be hidden with a sharpie and they will print all past titles from microfilm. You can see info when held up to a light or you might get lucky as in my case because they had a problem with the film and agreed to mail my title info and them forgot to black out the personal information. I was able to locate the original owner as well as discover Pat Goss from Motorweek fame own the vehicle at one point.
Good luck
Mike
