I've had several requests from people to change their 'status' (e.g. veteran, newbie, Jr. member, etc). Maybe it's time to redo the 'status' system.
When members moved from the old forum to the new forum, their status was made as veteran.
The status of everyone else is based on the # of posts:
Newbie 0
Jr. Member 50
Full Member 100
Sr. Member 250
Hero Member 500
Any suggestions on better names for the status names?
I'll probably also remove the veteran classification to make the system the same for everyone.
-
IMO. The names are OK as is.
-
How about...
Plain Jane 0
Rally Sport 50
Super Sport 100
Z/28 250
ZL-1 500
;D

I know I do not post much...But I do look and read every post almost everyday..so maybe change to how many times we visit..ah maybe not...I just like being a jr..finally after 2 years and 11 months

Why should it matter what your status is if we are all here for the same purpose. We all own and enjoy our Camaro's, some in other ways than others. We share the same interest. We share info when and if we can. I personally won't care if I stay a Newbie or become a Hero one way or another. If I can be of some help in anyway, and someone can use the help I provide, I wouldn't think what status you were would matter. We share a common bond here. Only my opinion folks, don't take it the wrong way...

I don't even look at a members status unless they are making some statements as fact and I question it. You are in a unique position with this web site in that you get emails and PM's from people that help the hobby in several different ways that aren's posted on the web site. I would think that would merrit some consideration but I don't know how you would do it. JMHO

I thought about something like that, but I didn't want to slight people that own L6 and low-po V8's.
And a Z is higher than an L89? I don't want to go there. :)
I'm fine with the newbie and hero labels. I wouldn't mind better names for the middle categories, if we can come up with them.
Some sites really push the importance of the status - hence probably why some people have asked about it.

I think the member status names are ok, but I miss a function were I in an easy way can follow my own threads and postings! ???
-
I removed the veteran status so now status is now only a factor of the # of posts.
Other than that, I'll leave the names as status quo for now.
Thanks for the input!

There's one version. Preview your post and there's a box labeled 'Notify me of replies'.
I haven't seen a feature to see just your own threads on other sites, but it's probably out there. There may be some software changes in the future and I'll watch for that feature.

Thanks Kurt for all you do. This is the most informative site for 1st generations on the web.
Hey! I just got another post, Sr. member here I come! :)
-
Not that it makes a lot of difference, but I got downgraded from Veteran to newbie. I've read the post and see that your status is now based only on number of post. Like I said, it's not a big deal but I've been a member and visiting and occasionally posting since half of the members here were still in high school. I just hate being classified as a newbie. Please don't let those V6-Berlinetta type guys contaminate this site like they have the other one.
First Gen Forever. Thanks Jim
-
Jim,
I knew that would happen to a few people.
I'm more than willing to add another level (maybe at 25 posts) or change how many posts to not be a newbie or change the newbie name.
-
Is doing away with the silly & meaningless names altogether considered valid input to this thread?
I think they're purely trivial.
Post count shows how much someone posts. No need for a name. :)
-
Not a bad idea. Let me hash it about for a bit.

Hey KurtS
I am brand new here. (Although I bought my first 67 in 1976 ,rs ss 4 speed coupe)And this site is clearly invaluable. It is a Gem. For me personally the names or # of posts don't matter.
I appreciate the consideration given to aknowledge those who have been contributing to this great site over a long period of time. Do as you like as far as the names go. If you could describe myself in a name it would be," GRATEFUL FOR THE OPPORTUNITY AND GLAD TO BE HERE GUY "

OK, I made it simple.
Newbie 0
Member 20
Hero Member 500
This shows if people are new to the forum (under 20 posts). After 20, everyone becomes a member.
And if you post a whole lot, then you get to be one of the 11 heros (currently). :)
Good suggestion Steve.

Wow! How do you get those big, fancy, gold stars under your name? LOL... ;D
Paul
-
You noticed. ;)
They were always setup, but my ID is listed as Admin, Coordinator, and Hero. And for some reason the Admin stars were being overwritten by the other stars. I did change the color from red - that was a little much. I still might downsize them.......

Oh no. It's not meant *that* way.
That's a line from "History of the World, Part One" by Mel Brooks.
He says it when he does stuff like shooting trap with peasants insteat of clay pigeons. :)
I didn't realize he also did it as a dance/club song! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goJnNGObLRk

And thank you for your hard work on the forums.
You have the highest post count of anyone on the forum!
For future reference, it's 2475. :)
-
The new members status looks good Kurt.
Now to chase those "Gold Stars"! Well done to all for a great forum, too much important information here to not be a part of it.
Cheers. ;D

Site's GREAT as is. I've owned Gen's 1,2,3, & 5 over the last 35 years and enjoy reading a lot of posts...just reluctant to reply unless I was totally sure of an answer (almost never). I'm grateful for all the great information and I don't care what you call me as long as it's not too bad!
-
I did not even notice the stars.... my bad.
-
Post #2 for me, I need to catch up.
-
Thanks Kurt...appreciate your efforts here as well. Looks like I received an upgrade :).
Everett is much better looking than I imagined ;).
