Title: Recommendations of N/66 wheel restoration
Post by: nuch_ss396 on March 31, 2006, 11:24:50 PM
Hi everyone,

I have 5 correct N/66 wheels that I want to restore for my 69 SS Camaro.  SS wheels were originally on my car, but I traded
them away back in 1980 thinking they were Chevelle & Nova only.   ::)

I'm interested in hearing from members here who have either restored their own, or had their N/66 wheels restored.

I had the wheels steel shot cleaned and primed 4 years ago in preparation for the restoration phase.  I want them to be
perfect and don't have access to a paint gun here.  Can I get a quality job from rattle cans, or should I send them out to
be restored?  Would any of you have a recommendation as to who can do a quality restoration on them for me?

Also, any ball-park on price for this restoration?  ???

Steve

Ive done several sets of them, along with some Pontiac Rally IIs which are similar.  Nothing difficult, pretty straight forward.

The correct color rattle can stuff will be fine, since theyre prepped well (blast/prime).  Like anything else, prep is key.

There are stencil kits out there, but Ive never used them.  I just lay down the masking tape, then use a fresh razor blade to trim.

As far as a resto estimate, I would think around 2-3 hrs per wheel.  Start to finish, and its 3 colors (including the backside).

Dave,

Do you happen to know the correct colors for these N/66 wheels?
