Title: Auxiliary lighting group ZJ9
Post by: Oaklyss on September 08, 2009, 02:42:31 PM
With the ZJ9, did the trunk light only work with the trunk open and with the headlights or parking lights on? I know the hood and interior lights work when opened.

The wiring diagram shows the trunk light fed from the dome light circuit, which is hot all the time; that would indicate that the light came on any time the trunk was opened. The light had an internal mercury switch, and opening the trunk lid grounded the circuit.

Factory ZJ9 wires to the trunk were also orange in color.  Also know that my '69 Chevelle had the trunk wire hot all the time.

Thank you. My wire is black from the light to the first connector, then orange from the connector to the brown wire double connector at the license plate lamp, just like A.I.M. page U25. But, mine is routed like it shows for convertible although mine is a coupe. My light only comes on with the headlite switch on. I would say this is original to the car. What do you think? are there any other Camaros seen with this option out there and how do their lights work?

My '68' isn't together enough to test the circuit, but I looked at the wiring harness and the trunk light is wired together with the license plate light. I would say the trunk light could only come on when the headlight switch is on. Hope this helps, RonM.

I would go with what JohnZ said due to the wiring diagram showing it that way.

My '67 trunk light is wired correctly according to the AIM. It plugs into the license plate light harness. My trunk light does'nt turn on unless the parking lights are on.

My comment was for the '69; 1967 may be different (I don't have that wiring diagram).

69 should be hot all the time, orange wire.  Anything else was done after manufacture.

I think that 67 and 68 are the same and this changed for the 69 model year.

I agree with Jerry. Looking in the 67 and 68 AIM's, they both show the wire going to the license plate harness. I don't have a 69 AIM, but I take John's word for it that it now attaches to the dome lamp, so like Jerry said, a change for the 69 model year.

Thanks for all the responses. But so far, I have not seen any that say they have a 1969 coupe trunk lamp and how is it connected.
