Anyone know what the repro part # is for the 68 Z fan clutch? I know Eaton still makes one, but I can't find out exactly what the part # is. I have an original fan blade now and am using a generic clutch and want to get the right one for 3 1/4". Is this the right one at HBC? http://store.heartbeatcity.net/store/product/13569/Fan-clutch%2C-302%2C-396%2C-%26-AC/
I called and asked and they said it's 3 1/4", but I don't trust them as they have a radiator tag that supposed to be correct for the 68 Z and it has a left tank code of IM (which doesn't even exist) instead of IH.

I have the correct fan for my 68 Z also but I cannot afford the 1200 dollar clutches either. I went to a local Parts Source and bought a twin to the one you are showing and paid only 75 dollars I believe. Yes it is the 3.25 bolt pattern.
-
Is it Eaton and what part store?
-
I have looked for the receipt or box it came in and cannot find it. I have no idea what the make was but I know it works great and was cheap. The store was called Parts Source a local automotive store in Canada .I know that these stores are also in the states I will go to the store and see if they can give me the maker.

Either one of these two?
-
That is the store web site but the fellow at the store found my part in another area. I will get there tomorrow and see if I can get you the make and part #.
-
That would be greatly apprecited. Thank you.

I took the clutch off my 68 Z and found the maker and part #. They are as follows Hayden fan clutch part # 2705 This does have the 3.25 bolt pattern as required if you have the correct fan for the 68 Z28s. Hope this helps and it cost 60 dollars Canadian. Paul B

Very much so. Thanks again!

Found it. Thye don't seem to have any sores in US. I'm going to call them though. Thanks again.

I think Hayden products are sold through NAPA and Pep Boys also
-
Were you able to track down the clutch?
-
I haven't called them yet. I have a source at NAPA and I'm going to ask him. If they have it, he'll find it. I still wonder if anyone knows the part # for the GM that is still sold?
-
I asked at the GM dealer I deal with and they showed nothing available with correct bolt patter 3.25 . They do sell one with the 3 inch bolt pattern.

Maybe they don't have it any more. John Z said Eaton still made them and gave the part# for the 3" version in post #3. I have the 3" one I got at Rick's years ago and won't need it anymore. Wish I could trade for a 3 1/4" one.
-
So is it now acceptable to use the Eaton coil style clutch as "correct". I know John Z said that both were used and I'v seen an original 67 L78 with the Eaton??? I have the Eaton on a 68 L78 with the correct 4 rivet fan.
-
Not sure if they are correct but for my 68 Z thats all it will gets,as I cannot imagine spending 3 grand on the correct one . ???
-
The Eaton and Schwitzer clutches were used interchangeably on the line - that's what the "opt." (optional) part numbers are in the A.I.M.; different appearance, but same Engineering specs. What makes them hard to find (and expensive) is the unusual combination of the small (1-3/4") bolt circle where the clutch attaches to the water pump hub with the large (3-1/4") bolt circle where the fan attaches to the clutch. Most clutches that use the small bolt circle at the water pump also used the small (3") bolt circle for the fan.

Summit has the Hayden one for $30.
