i purchased a 69 camaro x22 that is stamped as an L78 396/375 (JH). i don't trust the stamp, other than pulling the engine, then the pan, is there another way to identify this engine? PLEASE HELP

I believe the 375hp block has the different tapped holes above the oil filer then the 350hp block

Here is the block stamping photo

More photos from Mike by e-mail along with message:
maybe these pictures are a little better ? i have been told that the hole in the block for the oil pressure line is larger on the 375, so i included a picture of that.
thanks mike
I cropped these pics, to reduce image size without losing photo resolution.

Pad is a restamp.
-
Thanks for everything.
-
How could you tell that the pad is restamped? I for one would love to avoid getting ripped off in the furture.
-
I would also love to know, but that kind of info is usually held close by those who have it. Wouldn't want the fakes to get any harder to spot. If anyone cares to share offline I would be thankful.
-
I am the owner of this re stamped engine pad, and i would also like to know how to spot a fake in the future if at all possible! The only reason i had expected this to be a re stamp was because of the VIN was not present, and if you look close enough some of the numbers are not as straight as the others.

Good point. Never mind, Ill figure out eventually. Just need more time looking at the details of originals...
-
i have confirmed the pad is a restamp, i pulled the engine and then the pan and found it to be a two bolt main! Will gladly post name of the individual and location of where car came from if there are no rules or regulations within in the forum to stop me. JUST LET ME KNOW!
-
I could just make it easy for you. Who sold you this block?
-
Feel free to post. :)
-
will post tonight when i get home!!
-
What ever happened? What is the guy's name or did he decide to give you your money back?
-
I think many of us would like to know. Might save someone else from going through the same fate.

The Sellers info was posted in this thread:
Buyer Beware 396/375 ?

Tom, I just reviewed your pictures and I noticed that you can see the vin stamp to another car in the picture that shows the side of the block. I cannot make it out completely, but is it a Camaro vin?.............................RatPack.............................
-
Here is that part of the photo, cropped and rotated. I see the sequence number, looks like 30120 or possiblt 80120. Thats all I can make out.
-
Tom, I tried to invert the picture but it didn't help identify any other characters that might be present. If those numbers do not match the last 5 digits of your vin, then that is not your original engine.....RatPack......
-
Not my engine, these pics came from crownroyal58. I just posted them for him.
