Title: Cruise Control Installation Instructions
Post by: Oregonjam on June 13, 2009, 03:35:21 PM
These are the install instructions for a Dealer install kit that was produced for a 1968 Camaro. The seven page Instructions are dated 5-9-67 and include a template for monuting the system on Camaro and Chevelle applications.
These illustrations and instructions are not included in the Assembly Manual and are much more detail than what is available in the 1968 AIM. It shows strap placement etc., more clearly. The AIM I am have references drawings completed on 6-10-67 for factory installation.

I have spent a lot of time searching for documentation of these systems and this is the only copy of these instructions I have come across. If some one needs a larger file please email me and I will send it to you.
If any one comes across a service manual for this system please contact me a s well.

Is it possible to email me the instructions in a larger format? I would love to add this option to my car if I can find all the pieces. Knowing what the parts look like and how they are installed would help immensly! My email is carnut67ss@gmail.com

thanx. paul.

I would also like to get a copy of the cruise control instructions if possible.  I' ve got a complete setup minus the firewall bracket that I accumulated years ago for my wife's 1967 convertible. A friend did the same thing with me for his 1967 convertible and was able to get it working just fine.

67 stripper and bc69,
Rick's has 67 firewall bracket # CUR-1 in 2014 book, page 74. The 67 Chassis Service Manual (accessories 15-2) and the 67 AIM RPO K30 have good component operation and illustrations.
68 bracket is different as it has different mounting hole dimensions and other small differences. The wiring harness and engagement switch are also different
Parts are extremely hard to come by as not many where factory installed in 67 and 68.
Let me know if I can be of any further help. ;D

It's my understanding that this was a dealer only installation and
none were factory installed. Yes or no or both?

RPO K30 was a factory option (or dealer installed accessory) for 1967 and 1968, but only available on V8 Powerglide cars. In 1969 it was only available as a dealer installed accessory.

Sorry guys, I've been MIA for awhile.

Let me know if you still need the instructions. I shared them around a few years back. The set I sent previously was what came in a complete system box for Dealer installation that was packaged by the manufacturing plant. I still have an extra setup that i photographed extensively that shows all parts needed for a full installation as it came out of the box. There are a couple of minor differences between the dealer install kit and the factory installed system that came on my Camaro.

Hey Big Iron, I hope all is well. PM me your number so we can catch up. Its been an interesting few years with lots of changes. All good though.

John what are the difference in the two systems if you don't mind me asking?

Bc69 - The throttle clip is a different design. This attaches the ball chain to the throttle arm that runs up from the accelerator assembly. The arm has a hole located in it for a mounting screw to mount the clip for factory installed cruise. One clip wraps around while the other is only edge located. The other main difference is in the design of the transducer. The input location is different on the dealer transducers I have seen. This could have been a running change. The finish and overall appearance is the same.

A rare part is the turn signal arm. This was injection molded ABS and Chrome plated. The lack of structural ribbing on the part often led to them breaking just past the end of the steel arm due to fatigue. GM had a black plastic replacement part that used the same switch and connector that is more commonly seen on heavily driven cars.

I hope that helps.

I have the chrome lever.
The throttle arm has hole but clip is not screwed to it.
Do you have a pic of yours?

Sure. I believe I have photos of both. I can send them to you or post here. The files are on a drive at work and I have off tomorrow. Does Thursday work?

Cheers,
John

Sorry for delay BC,

I have the images. Let me know what you would like to see. I have two clips. One  installed is showing an installation of a factory system that was moved to a car at Ricks First gen. Sorry bu t that is the best quality image they provided me. the other is from a dealer system that had a part design change. This clip was never installed. It would use the threaded punched hole on the throttle arm for a single fastener. It was installed vertically with the return wrapping around the edge of the arm to the other side to hold it in position. the two prongs or fork grabbed the ball chain.

BC,
Here is another image of the first clip design compliments of Big Iron from a few years ago.

Also, this is the lever on a 68. There was a service replacement part used for both 67 and 68 applications available that you could buy through the dealer but was discontinued in the mid 1990's. The replacement was black but used the same switch, wiring harness and arm. The plastic end was redesigned. I have one somewhere I could dig up if someone needed to see it.

The lever on mine as you see is ribbed.
If I understand this was ones first used. They were prone to break so
Your style was the upgrade.  My clip is just like one that is pictured in
The aim.

BC,

Which one is in the Aim? I do not recall as i do not have an AIM.

The turn signal arm I posted is what is used on a 1968 factory and dealer installation. Smooth and chrome plated ABS. The replacement is Black and a different shape. I have never seen a 1967 turn signal arm. Do you know the ribbed arm to be original? Is it a metal casting or plated plastic?

Hey Bob, I hope all is well. Lets get on the phone and catch up.

Yes to my knowledge and going through the files on this car, the lever is original. Chrome ribbed ABS
The clip also seems to be.
Having troubles with file size for pic

BC,
Your picture is of the first 67 design. There was a factory part revision in 4 6 67 that changed your 3904186 clip to 3919006 clip that is shown in John's picture and was carried over into 68.
Could you show a picture and dimensions of the screw  9418359 that holds the clip to the throttle lever? It is the same for 67 and 68.

Wished I could. It's not there. They have it just hooked over throttle lever.
Do you have a pic of lever with this type clip installed.

I can shoot my factory installed 68 clip and screw if you would like. Let me know if that would get what you would like.

Good picture in 67 AIM K30 A3. Second design clip but installed the same. Also shows hole location for screw that holds the clip to the throttle lever.

Does anyone have a picture and dimensions of the screw in question? Because of the hole drilled in lever I would think it would be around 1/4-14 tapping screw but just guessing.

Bob the aim shows a 7/32 in hole in throttle.
Mine has no hole in it at all. I'm not sure how it was secured.
It was just slipped over or saddled from front side. ??

Bob,

Which clip do you have? Installation will depend on that. There are a few that I know off. The plated one pictured below hooks vertically onto the throttle arm. It does not use a screw. This clip design has a larger hole located higher on the part and relies on the throttle lineage pin to go through it with the standard cotter pin to hold it in place.

The other designs used the screw. I do not recall which one I installed after restoring the car. I will check to see if I have the screw. It was a black oxide finish.

John mine is the double pic. 1st round clip I guess as you said.
It does have a bigger hole in clip, but no hole in throttle arm. So this is retained using linkage?

This is the first design factory installed clip and is held in place with a screw.
