Does anyone know where I can get the manifold preheat shield and tube that goes from the exhaust manifold to the air cleaner for a 327/210. I haven't seen these as a repo. Also will a 327 setup for a 68 Chevelle use the same part
Thanks

I feel your pain. By far and bar none, finding the correct air cleaner, heat stove pipe, and exhaust manifold with heat shield was the most difficult part of putting together the correct 327 / 210 hp engine for my '69 RS.
You are correct, in that these items do not exist in the aftermarket - not highly demanded. Suggest eBay and the various swap meets. I found the correct mainfold, with heat shield attached, at Hot August Nights in Reno back in 2003. Air cleaner and heat stove pipe I found at salvage yards. I also found (and still have) a '68 air cleaner for the base 327 / 210 hp set up. I assume that you have the air cleaner?
-
Thats correct. Any idea if a sb set up for a 68 chevelle would be the same for the camaro?
-
Rich, I am restoring a 327/210 car and I can not find the same items. Would you like to sell what you have? Brad

Heartbeat City has the tube now for 1969. I don't know if it will fit or not on a '68

I need a carb, air cleaner etc... as all of these items where missing when it was changed over to a 4 barrel. would you know anyone that could help me with finding these items?
-
I have what might be a 68 air cleaner for a 327/210 hanging on the wall in my garage.
About 8 yres ago when I was going through the same process trying to find these pieces for my 69, I picked up this air cleaner at a salvage yard, got it home, and realized that the snorkel was pointed to the driver side (68) where the 69 air cleaner snorkel points to the right (passenger) side.
I'll post some pics later this week of what I have. If you can determine that it iis what you are looking for, I'll be gland to let it find a good home.

Yup!! Harder than Hell to find these parts. I have looked for over 6 months, I tried the lead at Heartbeat City and even though it's advertised they told me it is no longer a part they carry or stock. This is the first part we tossed as kids when we found out we could get an extra 10 HP going with an open style element air cleaner. If i could only get back back all of my original pats I tossed in favor of added bolt on horsepower I'd have saved a lot of $ on restoration parts. But to answer your question try Camaroland in Santa Maria Ca. He found an original for me and I got it in 2 days. Good Luck Hunting.

Thanks for the help. Rich, I have to call the shop that has my car and check on the air cleaner I have. It appears to have to short of a snorkle, but I am not sure which way it points. I tossed a pile of parts on my 68 RS I drove in high School also. Never knew smog crap was worth 1600 dollars. I have 2 cars and need several things for both. I am looking to get some help from this site and the good people that care about the original cars still. Thanks, Brad

Brad, send me a pm with your email address and I can send you a pic of my 327/210 hp air cleaner/heat stove & tube which is currently off the car. I also found a date code inside the air cleaner. Keep an eye on ebay and you will see the air cleaner, carb and manifold pop up from time to time. The heat stove was my holy grail piece and I found it on ebay by keeping a keen eye on folks selling 68 small block engines or parts cars as it was sometimes still attached to the exhaust manifold. Picked it up for 20.00. In the last 5 years I may have seen 4 or 5 sold on ebay and usually over 100.00 for a thin piece of metal. Which 2bbl carb are you looking for? Mine was an AC car and was very difficult to find, but I did.

Brad, I have a correct 2bbl carb for an A/C car. It was professionally rebuilt a couple of years ago. Includes the hot idle compensator and a date code tag. I also have the correct heads and intake for a 327/210hp car (dated around early Nov 67). I might also still have the air cleaner and heat tube (but not the stove) but I'll have to check - I'm on the road until late tonight. I am looking for that tube that goes from the snorkel to the heat stove for a 4bbl - since you mention having 4bbl parts on the car maybe we can do a trade if your parts are for a 68? If not, my price for what I have is reasonable - I'd like to see these go to someone who is restoring a car back to stock.

I have to take back what I stated above, ...thought I still had it, but can't find it now. Sorry.

Hey 68rsz28,if 68rs327 does not take your parts,I would be interested in your heat tube.maybe your heads as well.
I have a 68 327 2bbl mostly redone to factory condition, if you guys need pictures let me know.

Ok, I should make myself clear. I need a air cleaner for a manual shift car, and the carburetor # I need is 7028101. I have a the intake and heads. Any help with a 4-speed saginaw and (2) correct reverse light assemblies for the saginaw would be a miracle also. Thanks for everyone trying to help!!
-
Sorry brad68RS, my parts are from an automatic car so the carb in 7028112.
Sebastien - my heat tube and air cleaner have already been sold, but I still have the heads (as well as intake, timing cover and a few other parts). I have sent you an e-mail with some more details.
-
68RS, I will continue to look, but I may get back to you. Let me know in a IM what you want for the carb. Thanks,

To everyone with a 68 Camaro and a Powerglide,
Yes, the 68 Chevelle SB heat stove and tube fit a 68 Camaro SB (because the exhaust manifolds are the same shape for both the 327 and 350 engines). The heat stoves and tubes were only installed on Camaros with automatic transmissions, though. The 68 heat stoves and tubes are different than the 69 ones. Nobody is reproducing the 68 ones..., but I've seen reproduced 69 ones.
I won a mint condition 68 heat stove, tube, and small screw on eBay earlier this year for about $35.00 (was I lucky!!) from a guy who said it was from a 68 Chevelle SB with a 2bbl. I have not verified this fact with any Chevelle AIMs or parts manuals, but the parts fit perfectly on my L48 with a 7028212 carb (4bbl), Controlled Combustion System (CCS) air cleaner, and Powerglide. Also, they look exactly like the drawings in section M35 of the 68 Camaro AIM. The tube is semi-gloss black (with 500 degree or higher paint).
Like the other CRG posters with a 68 SB and Powerglide, it was one of several "Holy Grails" for my concourse restoration. The 4 bbl air cleaner with the CCS snorkel and chrome lid was also one (I guess someone swapped it out in the past for an open element air cleaner??). The air cleaner and chrome lid actually fits an NOS A348C air filter.
However, the mother of all "Holy Grails"...and a "showstopper" for my upcoming concourse/Legends...was an NOS Powerglide transmission converter underpan (3831527) for a 168-tooth flexplate and cast iron nose starter (heavy duty 1108338) used only on L48s. It is extremely, extremely rare and incidentally the same underpan used on 427 Corvettes with Powerglides. It is stamped steel and satin black color. I won an NOS one (with original GM parts sticker and part number on it) on eBay for $300 about two months ago...nearly impossible to find even in a poor condition. I felt like I won the lottery when I got it on eBay. The only version usually available on eBay and in aftermarket is a smaller underpan (3924779) for 153-tooth flexplates and aluminum nose starters that won't clear my larger diameter flexplate. Unfortunately, most of the aftermarket ones being sold are chrome (not original) and all are the 153-tooth type. The smaller underpan was used on 6-cyl and 327 blocks with Powerglides because they used a 153-tooth flexplate and an aluminum nose starter.
If anyone wants pictures of any of these parts, just ask me. I also have a restored original 3924779 Powerglide underpan (153-tooth type) for sale, if anyone is interested.
I'm thinking of helping Kurt S update his emissions control CRG Report with pictures of my NOS Controlled Combustion System parts, air cleaner, filter, breather element, CCS brochures, etc. I may even help update the CRG report on transmissions with the pictures of my Powerglide parts.

bowtie68iho, I'm on the hunt for the same stove pipe and tube for my 68 L30 sb as everyone else. Do you happen to have any pics of them? I'm also interested in what the correct breather tube from the valve cover to air cleaner should look like. Seems like this set up is just as hard to find. Thanks! Kevin

Here is the set up for the 327/210. I wonder what it would cost to have to stove assembly reproduced.
