I have a 69 SS with 396.
Did this car only come with the EGG CRATE hood
or was there an option for a cowl induction hood?

The ZL2 Special Ducted Hood became available to order as of 1 Dec 1968; first cars equipped with it were built late January 1969. The first two ZL-1s [12E] did have it and probably were the first but there was high-level intervention involved in those getting built at that time. No other 69s built before then could have had it.
No matter what you see today, relatively few SS and Z/28s were built with it.

The cowl hood was an available option (RPO ZL2) on any SS or Z/28.
